After the first two games of the Celtics-Bulls first round playoff matchup, you'd have a hard time finding many Celtics fans confident in their team's chances of advancing.
Boston is 3-7 SU and 4-6 ATS over its last 10 road games against the Bulls, but sticking to the present tense, Chicago is compromised in the point-guard matchup with Rajon Rondo (fractured right thumb) nearly certain not to play. He wasn't a major factor for the Bulls during the regular season, playing in just 26.7 minutes per game - the lowest regular-season average since his rookie season with the Celtics in 2006-07. "My thumb is the same as it was last week". "But I trust our other guys to guard [Butler]".
Thomas was just 6-17 from the field, but he hit all 11 of his free throw attempts to end the game with 24 points. "An unbelievable competitor. He's a warrior - everything he's going through right now, he had a helluva game tonight", Hoiberg said. "I just think him being able to be with this relatives and getting together with them, think that helped him". They believe in me.
"We played quite a few stretches last night, really the majority of the game without a true point guard on the floor", Hoiberg said.
Things remained relatively close all the way through the third quarter, but in the fourth Isaiah Thomas took over like he always does. "Teams going home and hopefully holding serve and forcing this to a Game 7 where anything can happen".
"I only know one way how to dribble". Chicago would need not only a big night from Jimmy Butler and Dwayne Wade but also from their supporting cast. He tweeted that Rondo's injury may actually be worse then he thought.
This series is far from over - Game 6 in Chicago won't be easy, especially if Rondo makes a miraculous return.
"We've talked about it", Wade said. "He's still in a splint for his thumb". The Celtics guards, Isaiah Thomas and Avery Bradley both had 24 points to lead Boston. The over/under total for the game is listed at 202 points.
The Celtics made adjustments after Game 2, changes easier to make with Rondo out. The Celtics have found a solution to the energy problem in their starting lineup through Gerald Green. Butler also had eight rebounds and six assists to compliment his scoring.
