Wizards win on Wall's 3-pointer, forcing a Game 7

15 Mai 2017

Wall's late game-winning shot sets up a deciding Game Seven tomorrow with the victor advancing to the East final against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

A whole second more, actually.

So, naturally, the ending of Game 6 has come with some more. With 1.7 seconds left, Thomas missed a tough 3-point shot and the Wizards survived.

Thomas scored five straight points to put Boston up 87-82 with 1:34 remaining.

"We're excited", Thomas said.

If not for a ill advised pull up three by John Wall miraculously going down, Boston would be preparing for Game 1 against Cleveland.

Luckily for the Wizards, Beal couldn't reach the ball, and Wall did his job. Wall pounded two left-handed dribbles before rising over Boston's Avery Bradley and sinking what was about a 26-footer from the right wing.

Bradley jumped out at Wall and contested the shot, which still hit nothing but net.

"That was a heck of a game between two teams playing very well", Celtics coach Brad Stevens said. They're a win away from any and all of these things because their star guards played and roared, and their poised coach stuck with the plan.

Bradley Beal finished with a game-high 33 points and combined with Wall to score 23 of the Wizards' 26 points in the fourth quarter. Elvin Hayes and Bob Dandridge carried the Bullets to a win-nearly five years before Marcin Gortat, Washington's oldest current player, was born. We can't worry about that. Wall turned on the jets and in the blink of an eye, he was at the line tying the game up after drawing a foul. In January a Wizards team showed up in Boston wearing all-black as a motivational device and they left Bean-Town with a win. The Wizards had a foul left to give, meaning the Celtics would have to inbound the ball again. Washington is just 6-3 in Game 7s. But maybe, as we look at in the future, maybe that is something that we can review.

Watch the final two minutes of the Friday Celtics vs. Wizards Game Six play out in the video below. Neither the Celtics nor Wizards have won on the road, and the difference in some numbers based on the location of games is stark. "I always said coming into this league, I'm not going to be one of those guys people can go in on screens my whole career".

"He put us on his back", said Morris, "and that's why he's a superstar".

All the Celtics have to do is play with good goal and physicality.

In his seventh season with the Wizards, the team has only made the playoffs three times, but during his first two, Wall averaged 21.9 and 17.6 percent with his 3-ball, respectively. The Celtics must find a way not to let the bitterness of Game 6 trickle into Game 7, to make sure one crushing night doesn't contaminate another.

"That's where all the great players make their name", said Thomas when asked about Game 7. I guess that's where legends are born.
