Donald Trump Threatens James Comey, Implies He Taped Conversations

The White House has said Comey's firing was unrelated to the Russian Federation probe, but in the interview with NBC News on Thursday, Trump said he knew he ran the risk that by firing Comey he would "confuse people" and "lengthen out the investigation" into ties to Russian Federation.

"It was all him", Spicer said, referring to Rosenstein. Why would he want to decrease the credibility which is already in question of this White House and comments that are made from that podium? Mr Clapper said: "Exactly". He simply stated a fact.

Mr Trump's press secretary Sean Spicer has rejected the report.

Meanwhile, questions continue to swirl around Trump's dismissal of Comey, who was overseeing an investigation into Trump campaign aides' contacts with Russian Federation and whether there was any collusion in the alleged meddling of the 2016 U.S. election by Moscow.

Mr Sessions has faced questions over whether his involvement in Mr Comey's firing violates his pledge to recuse himself from investigations into Russian interference in the election. Trump has claimed, without evidence, that Comey told him on three separate occasions he is not under investigation.

On Thursday, McCabe told senators that at the time of his firing, Comey enjoyed "broad support within the Federal Bureau of Investigation and still does to this day".

"First of all, we have to make sure that these tapes, if they exist, don't mysteriously disappear", Warner said. The president also threatened to cancel the century-old policy of daily White House press briefings if criticism of their accuracy continues. Trump tweeted on Friday.

He added, "Maybe the best thing to do would be to cancel all future "press briefings" and hand out written responses for the sake of accuracy???"

"Relish the opportunity to be an outsider", Trump said.

Trump is considering almost a dozen candidates to succeed Comey.

Trump told reporters aboard the Air Force One as he embarked on a visit to Lynchburg, Virginia that a decision may come as soon as before he starts his first oversea trip next Friday.

"There are a lot of Democrats who feel that way", Schumer said. Comey earlier declined an invitation this week to testify in a closed hearing.

"I don't think it's inappropriate", Trump said. Clearly, the president lost trust in James Comey. Why? "Did he order Comey to end the investigation?"

On Thursday, Trump told NBC News' Lester Holt during an interview that he was going to fire Comey regardless of the DOJ's recommendations. CNN reported on Thursday that Mr Comey never gave Mr Trump an assurance of his loyalty. "And I think, as well, our institutions are under assault internally".

Asked if the decision or an announcement could take place before he leaves for Saudi Arabia on Friday, Mr Trump said: "Even that is possible". John Conyers and Elijah Cummings, the ranking Democrats on the House Judiciary and Oversight committees, respectively, sent the White House a letter demanding it turn over any tapes relating to Comey.
