I know they got crushed twice in D.C., but is this win a turning point that will carry over to Game 6?
The two teams meet in Game 6 in Washington on Friday night.
Here, Thomas puts Marcin Gortat in an uncomfortable position of having to decide whether he's going to fight under or over the screen on a Horford 3-pointer.
John Wall has scorched Thomas for most of this series and will go back to playing isolation basketball in Game 6 to make Thomas almost unplayable like he was in Games 3 and 4. Isaiah Thomas scored 29 of his playoff career-high 53 points in the fourth quarter and overtime and was the difference down the stretch. "When we took shots, they started leaking out and getting out".
The Celtics went 16-for-33 from 3-pointers and became the sixth team in National Basketball Association history with at least 10 treys in six straight playoff games. Bojan Bogdanovic came off the bench and led the second unit with 19 points and 10 boards. After going down 0-2 in the series, John Wall and the Wizards kicked the Celtics in the teeth to even things up in back-to-back blowout wins. So when Boston forward Jae Crowder mentioned that the team was familiar with the Wizards' plays after the 123-101 win, CSN Wizards tried to get to the bottom of things with a Spygate joke. The Celts went on a 16-0 run early in the first quarter and led by double digits the rest of the night.
Washington fans booed Olynyk every time he touched the ball in Game 4, but the Wizards' Bradley Beal said he thought Celtics fans took it too far Wednesday night. Avery Bradley scored 25 of his 29 points in the first half and fueled a 16-0 run in the first quarter that gave the Celtics all the breathing room they needed.
Game 6 is Friday night in Washington and the Wizards will be hoping to force a Game 7 in Boston on Monday night. Horford can dominate the Wizards bigs in the post and his passing keeps all the Celtics players active in the offense.
And that's what has made the Celtics such a successful team, one that finished with the best record in the Eastern Conference and with it, home-court advantage throughout the Eastern Conference playoffs. They didn't in Washington's wins, but with the point guard playing more of a distributor role, other Celtics came alive with the series back in Boston. Beal (from 40 percent in the regular season to 28 in the playoffs) and Porter (from 43 to 31), in particular, have been off, and they're supposed to be Washington's most productive from beyond the arc.
Boston have now won eight straight overall at the Boston Garden over Washington.
But in this series, as it was during the regular season, the home town has won every game.
The Celtics were held to 93 or fewer points on four occasions during that stretch, including a 116-89 loss as 5 1/2-point underdogs in Game 3 of this series.
The home team is 9-0.
The home team in each game this series has scored points easily, averaging 122.4 points per contest.
It's a question that's followed the C's since the Hawks knocked them out in the first round of last year's playoffs.
If you take away Isaiah Thomas' scoring, who on the Celtics can beat you?
Wall wasn't much better, making just 7-of-22 shot attempts for 21 points and only four assists.
Sure, theres intrigue in the next game, but theres part of me that also knows the next game will be just as lopsided.
