Cleveland Cavaliers Eastern Conference Finals matchup had the key question of if Boston had anyone who could stop LeBron James, and the answer in Wednesday's Game One was a clear "Nope".
LeBron James saw the Cleveland Cavaliers to a convincing win over the Boston Celtics in game one of the Eastern Conference finals.
The Cavaliers also struggled from deep ending up shooting 11/31 total, with a spectacular night and display of hot-hand from Kevin Love being the only consistent player from deep hitting 6 of his 9 attempts leading to a 32 point showing and pulling in 12 rebounds as well.
The other one-third of the Celtics night was the best player in the world getting whatever he wanted whenever he wanted it. LeBron James scored 15 points in the first quarter - entirely around the rim or at the line - and when he re-entered the game in the second, he picked up right where he left off.
Boston played better in the third quarter, sparked by 10 points from Jae Crowder. Isaiah Thomas tried to trash talk while trailing by 25 points, and then the 5-foot-9 guard threw himself at a driving LeBron James.
The Cleveland Cavaliers showed no signs of rust despite having not played since May 7 and emerged victorious against the Boston Celtics at the TD Garden.
"I felt like everybody was moving the ball, passing the ball well", said Love, who hit six 3-pointers.
The team with the flawless roster continued its run of perfection in the 2017 playoffs on May 17 by topping the Celtics, 117-104, at TD Garden in Boston. How do you not pay extra close attention to the best player in the world (James)?
"He's really setting the tone for us in these playoffs", Lue said.
Brown came off of Boston's bench and was the team's top rebounder with nine, all while scoring 10 efficient points and providing versatile defense on LeBron James and Co. He also manhandled Isaiah Thomas at every turn on both ends of the floor.
LeBron James and company feasted at the rim: The Cavaliers were the best team in the National Basketball Association when it came shooting 3s. He grabbed every rebound for the most part with him and Tristan (Thompson) in the paint, and he was very aggressive with his shot. "We were able to make reads and play it simple".
As a team, the Cavs followed their superstar, shooting 68 percent from within the restricted area in Game 1. With Kevin Durant, the Warriors can unleash a five-man lineup of Curry, Durant, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala, which could expose Love's defense on switches. "It was a great atmosphere, and more than anything else, focused on that and our game plan".
Cleveland was coming off two straight series sweeps and had not played in the last eight days. James' teams have now won a road game in 29 consecutive series and going back to last season's NBA Finals, the Cavs have won seven consecutive road playoff games. "I don't mind it, '" Love said.
Boston's going to need Thomas playing at a superstar level to have a chance in this series and any time Horford is held silent it's that much tougher for the Celtics to get over the hump even against teams like the Washington Wizards - let alone the Cavs. Game 2 will be televised on TNT.
