What adjustments can the Wizards make? Unlike the Wizards, the Celtics fortunately showed up in-front of a wild T.D Garden crowd to take a 3-2 series lead. Thoughts of an inspired comeback departed quicker than the Celtics on leakouts. It would be nice if that didn't happen again. "We weren't getting back in transition from the corners", Washington coach Scott Brooks lamented.
"Nobody's going to talk about him, but Jaylen Brown, his energy, defensively what he brought in the first and second quarter, were huge for us", Horford told the media after the game. "They're going to protect Olynyk here". Because even if they can't close things out Friday, they'll get to host Game 7 on Monday, an advantage they earned by finishing with the No. 1 seed. Although Brooks may only need to hire a motivational speaker for Game 6 considering how flat the Wizards came out for Game 5.
Horford shot 8-of-9 from the field, including 3-of-4 from long range during Game 5, so there is no sign of him cooling off as he heads to Washington for Game 6.
Meanwhile Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers await the victor of the series resting at home after back to back 4 game sweeps.
In the last nine games between the teams, the home team has won every time. "So it's a great opportunity for us tonight, and I know that if we come out playing the same way we played last game, we'll have a chance to be smiling, laughing, just like we were after the Chicago series". "I think it's a good test for us".
The only real surprise was Washington's level of non-competitiveness. The Wizards have not lost on their home floor this postseason, and the Celtics know just how hard it is to win down in DC, dropping all four of their contests there this season (the home team is 9-0 overall this season and postseason).
"He put his injuries aside and laced his shoes up and played", teammate Isaiah Thomas said of Bradley. "Hopefully, everybody else is treating it like that".
Avery Bradley has been doing all the little things to get the Boston Celtics over the hump this postseason.
But Bradley has never really gotten enough credit for his offensive skills; somewhat understandable considering he failed to crack double-digit scoring averages for the first three years of his pro career, and considering that he plays alongside Celtics star point guard Isaiah Thomas, one of the league's most explosive offensive players. Jae Crowder also bounced back after struggling in Washington, scoring 18 points of his own and had 9 rebounds. Bradley said he took some comments made by Bulls All-Star Jimmy Butler between games personally.
"As a basketball player, you've just got to read what the defence is giving you", said Thomas.
I've been riding the Celtics every game in this series and throughout the playoffs overall, and it's paid off with them covering seven of their last nine games.
Their Verizon Center co-tenants extended their miserable run of bad history Wednesday. They're trying to make it bigger than what it needs to be. Washington has used a few different defenders on Thomas, most of the time going with either Bradley Beal or Kelly Oubre Jr.
