Ducks even Western finals with 3-2 overtime win against Predators

19 Mai 2017

With the win, the Predators went up 2-1 in the best-of-seven series.

The Ducks had bountiful chances to expand their 2-0 lead, which Rickard Rakell and Nick Ritchie created.

Nate Thompson was initially credited with the victor at 10:25 in overtime, though it looked like the pass that Corey Perry sent on net from the corner redirected off Nashville defenceman P.K. Subban. By the end of the game, it wasn't the Predators who ran out of gas, but rather the Ducks, who gave up two goals - not including the two that were disallowed - in the third period of a 2-1 loss. Especially in these playoffs, Predators games feel like parties.

It was a dramatic contest where luck seemed to be on Nashville's side for much of the evening.

Perry's shot deflected in off Nashville defenseman P.K. Subban's stick 10:25 into overtime, and the Ducks snapped the Predators' 10-game home playoff winning streak with a 3-2 victory Thursday night.

But Corey Perry and the Ducks ruined the Predators' comeback hopes.

Schultz had helped run the power play and his absence likely means veteran Mark Streit will see his first minutes of the playoffs.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will be without forwards Bryan Rust and Patric Hornqvist and defenseman Justin Schultz for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals in Ottawa on Wednesday night. It was the fewest shots ever allowed by the Ducks in a period.

Vanderbilt is coming off its first bowl appearance under Mason. He also has 11 points, second on the team behind linemate Ryan Johansen.

Put another way, 13:17 in time elapsed before Nashville was able to challenge Anaheim netminder John Gibson a second time. Pekka Rinne has given up 24 goals on 400 shots faced.

The Nashville Predators are so confident right now that not even having two goals in eight seconds waved off for goaltender interference can shake them.

Perry's score came from just below the Nashville goal line, rifling a shot off Rinne's skate and into the net. I know they struggled a little bit in the post-season prior to our series, but they are a terrific penalty killing team.

Coach Mike Sullivan says all three have upper-body injuries and won't play against the Senators until at least Game 4. For the Ducks, that number was 30.4 percent. However, Kessler was great down the stretch, winning 14 of 22 faceoffs in the game preventing Nashville from getting possession of the puck and tying the game late in the third period. This was the 47th one-goal game this postseason, four short of the record set in 207.

Those numbers have translated into a boon for those taking the UNDER in totals betting, which has prevailed in five of Nashville's past seven, while the total has finished OVER just three times in the Predators' past 21 overall, according to the OddsShark NHL Database. “And there were too many check points from my perspective that I felt the number one thing that we needed to prepare ourselves for tonight was rest.”.
