"They just wanted to make a difference in their communities", Sterling said, explaining that honoring the fallen is much more than reciting numbers. And Baytonians have responded with random acts of kindness.

According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, 143 police officers died in the line of duty past year - the highest figure since 2011, when 178 officers died.

National Police Week brings thousands of law enforcement officers to Washington D.C. each year.

It will begin at 7 p.m.

Authorizes probation officers to arrest a person if there is probable cause to believe the person forcibly assaulted or obstructed a probation officer while they were conducting official duties.

"We as a family, we as a brotherhood band together, we support these families year in and year out we're there for them", Cabell County Sheriff Chuck Zerkle said.

"I have two officers down, officers down", he could be heard saying. The department then called on citizens for help.

"You get to interact with the community and have a normal conversation", said GJPD officer Dustin Bovee. "Last summer, I got the opportunity to fly out to Dallas, Texas, for five of those funerals when five Dallas police officers were murdered in the streets".

Suzanne Peterson, in her keynote speech, said Moore's death was a "poignant reminder of the risks law enforcement officers face every day". "All of those improvements are little consolation to the families, loved ones, and colleagues of those officers who no longer return home at the end of their shift", Wynn says.

Every day, our police officers and staff go out to work not knowing what they might face, but do so with the utmost professionalism and bravery.

In Lafayette, the service started with a patriotic song as St. Barnabas church was filled with police officers and those who were there to honor them. Of those, 23 are Texas officers (19 officers and four canines).

In 2016-in our county alone-214 defendants were sentenced to state prison for a total of 747 years for committing crimes against peace officers.

Few things anger me more than a lack of respect for those who protect and serve.

The Baytown Fire Department and Constables Office will also be there to showcase a robot and Humvee.
