The Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators meet Saturday in game four of the NHL Eastern Conference Finals at the Canadian Tire Centre. "It's out of my control, so I don't really think too much about it". Ten players found their way onto the scoresheet for Ottawa, and five of them-Methot, Turris, Brassard, Hoffman and Bobby Ryan-recorded two points in the contest.
Sidney Crosby scored on the power play 6:07 into the third period, but that never sparked a comeback and it didn't appear there was enough time for one, even if it had. He struggled in Game 3, a 5-1 loss, allowing four goals on nine shots against the Senators.
"I haven't even gotten there yet", he said. "Not the ideal circumstances by any means, but it felt good to shake some rust off a little bit". He stopped 19 of the 20 shots he faced and showed no signs of the lower body injury he sustained near the end of the regular season. And from there, the Senators were on their way.
Then, with 10:34 gone in the period, Marc Methot's second goal of the playoffs set off the quickest three-goal run in Senators playoff history.
Sullivan: "Marc was a professional, like he always is".
The Ottawa Senators can put a stranglehold on this series with a victory and a 3-1 lead.
The Ottawa Senators lead the Penguins 2-1 in the best-of-seven series.
Whether I'm watching hockey, football, baseball, soccer - at home or at an arena or stadium - I want that experience to be worth my time or money, or both. So, we'll be ready for a lot better game from them.
"I think I'd be lying to you if I told you I would have bet the house on it, but, no, we're a confident group", Senators defenseman Chris Wideman said.
After the game, Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said he hadn't thought about who will get the start. "We'll see how it goes". "We give up four goals as quickly as we did, sometimes when you make a change, it's for more than one reason". I think he will continue to play well at home and should lead Ottawa to another victory.
The Senators were at their best with what was their most dominating effort of the playoffs. They worked hard for their chances, give them credit. I know we're getting some chances, but it's not coming up on the scoresheet for us.
Boucher said his team responded to the loud support of the home fans.
"He's been instrumental for us since he got here, not just with what he does on the ice, but also on the bench and off-ice, his personality and his leadership", Boucher said in French. The series victor advances to the Stanley Cup Finals to face the victor of the Nashville Predators-Anaheim Ducks series.
"We know it's not going to be like that next game", said Hoffman. We just have to go out there and execute it and do our job. That's probably what it's going to be. He was injured for the first half of these playoffs, but now he is healthy and has a case to start Game 4.
Aside from the luck and the bounces and all the things that influence a hockey game outside of skill, determination and timely saves, the grind appears to be dangerously close to catching up to Crosby and his Penguins.
