Democrats on the House Oversight and Judiciary committees are calling for a joint investigation into whether President Donald Trump and his top aides are perpetrating an ongoing conspiracy to obstruct justice by interfering in FBI and congressional investigations.
Vice President Gerald Ford was sworn in immediately after Nixon's departure. When Nixon sought to fire special Watergate prosecutor Archibald Cox - he was initially defied by the Department of Justice. He has obstructed an investigation, lied to the American people, tried to intimidate a witness and become increasingly unhinged in public view. He did the same after a series of conversations with Dean later that month in which the White House counsel asked Walters if the Central Intelligence Agency could pay for the bail or the salaries of the Watergate burglars. And like Nixon, Trump needs to be driven from office. Weicker, a former Republican, warns that Republicans need to be more vocal and willing to criticize a president of their own party.
On Day 118 of the Trump administration, a special counsel was appointed. While Watergate involved Americans breaking and entering into an office for the goal of electing Richard Nixon, Putingate involves Russians breaking and entering into computers to elect Donald Trump. "The actions of Congress and others in going forward and investigating this will allow us to start to understand what's really going on and separate reports and rumors from actual testimony". In slow motion, Trump implemented the successive firing of the USA attorney in NY, the acting attorney general and the FBI director - the three leaders of the three crucial counterintelligence and law enforcement investigations.
Trump can not act against Mueller the way he acted against Bharara, Yates and Comey.

Congress needs to see the Comey memo.

Indeed, the White House's transparent lie fell apart within 48 hours.
This is not "The Apprentice". As director of the FBI, Comey's plate was filled with hundreds of projects of which the Russian investigation was just one. The president seems content to fiddle, searching for the cable news show that supports his self-aggrandizement, while his administration burns. And now they have a charge straight from the Watergate era to make that comparison stick: obstruction of justice. We have to do reform of Obamacare and replacement. Many within the GOP were apparently hoping they could adopt the strategy made famous by North Carolina Hall of Fame Basketball Coach Dean Smith, the Four Corners. As Comey later wrote, in a memo shared with associates at the time, Trump asked Comey to drop the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe of paid Russian propagandist Michael Flynn: "I hope you can see your way clear of letting this go, to letting Flynn go". Political loyalty is a luxury that runs only as far as one's approval rating.
The associate, who was not authorized to discuss the matter by name and spoke on condition of anonymity, says Comey is willing to testify about his experience with Trump but wants to do so in public.
