"We appreciate Calvin's time and contributions to our organization and wish him nothing but the best in Cleveland", Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan said in a statement. The Browns feel good about the group, and had no plans to extend Davis, 28.
So it remains to be seen who'll receive snaps at linebacker alongside Collins and Kirksey when the Browns feature three of them. Pryor is set to make $1.6 million this season, the last of his rookie deal.
The Jets let Pryor know how they felt about him when they drafted two safeties to begin the 2017 National Football League draft and declined his fifth-year option days later.
Nicknamed "The Louisville Slugger", Pryor was a big favorite of former Jets head coach Rex Ryan due to his rugged play while at the University of Louisville. He finished second on team with 99 tackles and had two sacks, two pass break-ups and one forced fumble.
Pryor has largely been viewed as a disappointment since being picked in the first round with just four interceptions in three seasons.
Pryor skipped the first practice of OTAs last week, a move that fueled speculation that he was upset about the Jets drafting two safeties.
Coach Hue Jackson will address Pryor when he next meets the media this Tuesday.
After being informed he was officially the No. 5 running back on the Washington Redskins depth chart heading into OTAs, Matt Jones saw the writing on the wall and chose to spend the offseason voluntary workout period on his couch. He hadn't lived up to expectations in NY and the Jets were able to get something back for him. There's not much to respond to as a player. They need to find out about Pryor, which means it's too soon to assume that Pryor will be a starter, or even make the roster. "You just work on doing your job".
Earlier this offseason, Cleveland signed defensive back Jason McCourty.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Jets were planning to release Pryor if they couldn't trade him, but the move to swap him for a starting-caliber linebacker appears to help both camps.
