Pakistan 'completely calm' ahead of India clash - Arthur

04 Juin 2017

Afridi, who recently retired from global cricket, added that he is highly impressed with India's squad as they are stocked with talent in all departments.

Due to diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan, the two teams rarely lock horns against each other barring an International Cricket Council (ICC) event, and the hotly fought battle has over the years drawn a wide range of audience.

The family members of BSF Head Constable Prem Sagar, who was killed and his body mutilated by Pakistani forces, have appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop India from playing Pakistan in the Champions Trophy. Is it for the money that India plays for?

In the second match, opener Shikhar Dhawan (60) and wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik (94 retired hurt) put on a 100-run stand for the third wicket before all-rounder Hardik Pandya smashed a 54-ball unbeaten 80 to propel India to a mammoth 324/7.

"Every player wants to do his best against Pakistan and vice versa because that (performance) has value and is remembered for a long time". There is no way in-between.

Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed has claimed that India, who are being termed as the clear favourites for the high octane Champions Trophy clash to be played at Edgbaston on Sunday, will be under pressure and not Pakistan.

After India left for England to defend the Champions Trophy, it was reported that all was not well between Kohli and Kumble.

He has played two matches against India and picked up two wickets. According to Ahmed, Pakistan have nothing to lose going into the fixture whereas India have everything.

Over the last decade, the two nations' sporting relationship has further deteriorated amid ongoing political confrontation.

He gave example of 1977 when General Ziaul Haq was the in-charge of Pakistan, and the tours were started. "But he was starting to come back to form", he said. "Where is the confusion?" In the ICC World Cup, India has a stranglehold against Pakistan, winning each of their six encounters. "This is a big question", he remarked.

Harbhajan said handling pressure will be the key.

A tense, low-scoring game with the heat getting to the players - just what you would expect for an India-Pakistan game.

While Rohit Sharma will be playing his first worldwide match after more than six months, Shikhar Dhawan will look to relive his performance during the 2013 edition, when he was in the form of his life winning "Man of the Tournament" award. "It's hurting cricket and fans are disillusioned with politicians", Nadeem Chowdhry, 50, an opening batsman who's played with the OCC for 15 years, told CNN. "So, cricket has changed since then".

It was described during a recent press conference by Indian national cricket captain Virat Kohli as "just a game".

"India do have a strong line-up on paper, but we have prepared well too".

Contrary to the hype, Harbhajan felt Pakistan don't pose as much problems for India as some other big teams do. He also said if the business between India and Pakistan can continue, then why not cricket?
