'The Fight Is On': Conor McGregor to Meet Floyd Mayweather in Octagon

15 Juin 2017

It doesn't appear that August 26th will be the date that Floyd Mayweather faces off with Conor McGregor after all.

If the 26 August date does not work out, it is likely that the boxing bout will take place in November, with venue scheduling issues in Nevada along with the reluctance to compete with postseason baseball in October. During an appearance on ESPN's SportsCenter, UFC President Dana White said the bout will be contested at 154 pounds and will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The fight will be televised on pay-per-view on Showtime.

McGregor has never fought an official boxing match professionally which seemingly gives "Money May" the advantage.

Collins said that he and his brother Pascal, who runs the Celtic Warrior boxing gym where McGregor trained at for some time early on his career, have talked about the game plan to beat Mayweather. Badou Jack will fight that night.

Sky Sports boxing producer Jon Beloff said: "The level of interest in this fight really has been phenomenal".

Both fighters have been the most discussed in their respective arts for the past decade. He has never been knocked out and carries a ideal fighting record. He's one win away from breaking Rocky Marciano's long standing record with 50-0 in touching distance. "Mayweather v McGregor will not be on the agenda for tomorrow's commission meeting", Bennett exclusively told World Boxing News in a further revelation on the situation at hand.

The odds had listed Mayweather as a -2500 favorite, with McGregor listed as a +1100.

Mayweather is widely regarded as one of the best defensive fighters ever, and prides himself on his ability to evade punishment with his skilful movement about the ring while making adjustments against opponents on the fly.

Mayweather had previously topped that list on three separate occasions but relinquished his crown following his retirement after victory over Andre Berto in September 2015. He kept his welterweight world title, and he retired shortly after.
