Warriors capture their second National Basketball Association title in three years

15 Juin 2017

Durant capped his spectacular first season with the Warriors by bringing home an National Basketball Association championship, scoring 39 points in a Finals-clinching 129-120 victory over LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 5 on Monday night.

Green shot 34.5 percent for the series and never got around to having the kind of statement game he had in Game 7 of last year's Finals.

Even after coughing up a 3-1 lead in last year's championship round, the Warriors are already a dynasty thanks to the addition of Kevin Durant - a free agency coup that might not have happened if not for that Finals defeat.

"I just try to put in the work", James said. "So, I just told myself I'm not going to worry about the officials".

"I left everything on the floor every game", James said after averaging a triple-double in his eighth Finals.

It was an unprecedented third consecutive meeting between the clubs in the finals and both appear ready to continue their domination of conference rivals on the way to an annual showdown for the crown. Kerr's team set an National Basketball Association record for regular-season wins with 73 last season and returned to the Finals, but lost to Cleveland in seven games.

The Warriors won 73 games last season. "I thought we played well, got better each game, but against good teams you can't give away games", he said. "They did a great job, their front office and their players, by doing that recruiting, the things that they did in the summertime, and obviously it paid dividends".

Durant - who swapped the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Warriors in search of an elusive title - scored 39 points on 14 of 20 shooting with seven rebounds and five assists.

"Some people would say that he's on the toe of - like he's on the line of greatness", Irving said. "Man, he's freaking awesome". In the other three quarters, Cleveland held a four-point advantage. Throughout the regular season, it was the team's collective and overwhelming talent that made everything add up neatly; in the Finals it was Kevin Durant. They hit their stride late and won a championship in convincing fashion. "They're so fast, they get out in transition".

Golden State went 67-15 this season in locking up the top seed in the Western Conference. Thompson and West went at each other face to face.

"To do something I love to do and know she knows I love it so much and she knows how much I come home at night and stress and how happy I am when I play the game", Durant said of his mom.

Oakland: Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James said his emotions were "all over the place" as he tried to deal with losing the NBA Finals despite another Herculean individual effort.
