Investigators said in a statement that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has searched the van, which was parked not far from the Alexandria, Virginia, baseball field where Wednesday's shooting took place.
A physician treating U.S. Representative Steve Scalise, who was seriously wounded in an attack on Republican lawmakers at a baseball field near Washington, said Friday that his vital signs were stable but that he was still in critical condition.
Brooks was still on the field when Hodgkinson began his shooting rampage. With the chief deputy of the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department by her side, she said she felt "horrible" about the actions of her husband of almost 30 years. "We are forever grateful for the heroism" of the officers, she said. "I can't wrap my head around it, okay?"
"And if leadership can not figure out a way to do it, I'll probably just introduce legislation to try to do it on my own".
She also says she didn't want to discuss her husband's politics. He had run out of money, his wife told reporters. Hodgkinson died after being wounded by return fire.
The Capitol Police were at the ballfield in Virginia because Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., is the majority whip and member of the leadership.
"Last year we set records with $500,000 raised for charity and 10,000 fans, and already we're topped $1 million in donations and sold more than 20,000 tickets" before game time, said Sean Brown, a volunteer with Congressional Sports Foundation that organizes the event. At the request of the family, we will continue to provide periodic updates.
On Friday, the hospital's director of trauma, Dr. Jack Sava, called Scalise's injury a "transpelvic gunshot wound" which had "fragmented, and caused significant damage to bones, internal organs and blood vessels".
In a statement, Mika's family said he would remain in the intensive care unit at George Washington University Hospital at least through the weekend.
Richmond said Scalise is still "fighting" after had a third surgery Thursday morning. Griner was in good condition "and in good spirits", Sava said. Bailey, Barth, and Williams have been treated and released.
Scalise was among five people wounded when a shooter sprayed rifle fire at congressional Republicans practicing on a diamond in suburban Alexandria, Va. Hodgkinson had arrests in his background but showed required firearms licenses to an IL deputy who confronted him about shooting a cornfield last spring.
Pelosi says it's "outrageous" and "beneath the dignity" of the House, adding: "How dare they say such a thing, how dare they". "Other than that, the state can't take it away".
"That gives me some comfort", he said, of the local police presence. Authorities also were going over a cellphone, computer and camera taken from Hodgkinson's white van, which was parked near the ballfield.
President Donald Trump shared a message Thursday night prior to the Congressional Baseball game at Nationals Park, saying the fact that the game was still being played was sending a message to the world "that we will not be intimidated by threats, acts of violence, or assaults on our democracy".
