"Witch Hunt." Sekulow said Trump isn't under investigation, then appeared to contradict himself. "No", Sekulow said, "The context of the tweet, I just gave you the legal theory, Chris, of how the Constitution works".
Attorney Jay Sekulow is defending President Donald Trump's use of social media, even though Sekulow himself has denied d, even though Trump's recent tweets.
This message is similar to a tweet President Trump made last Thursday. Sekulow said Trump "thought it was in the best interest of the American people" to fire Comey.
White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders last week said Trump had "no intention" of firing Mueller, although "the president has the right to".
On "Face The Nation" on CBS, Sekulow clarified that he's so confident that there isn't any investigation into the president because they have not received any notification from the special counsel's office.
The two were formerly law partners at Washington firm WilmerHale. Mueller left his position at the firm to lead the investigation.
Sekulow says the president never said Rosenstein did anything wrong. Mueller and the prosecutors he has hired so far are clearly looking in part at Trump's conduct.
Himes says interviews are still being scheduled and documents being reviewed.
From there, Sekulow pivoted to the topic of leaks, saying, "The only reason we're talking about this is because of what?" That may need to be extended to including "If your lawyer is explaining, you're really losing".
The Washington Post report to which Conway referred was the story that Robert Mueller had widened his probe to include interviewing intelligence officials about whether Trump tried to obstruct justice.
The New York Times reports that Jared Kushner may be shaking up his legal team as his representatives have quietly contacted criminal lawyers about representing him. Of course, as the professor points out, Rosenstein's recusal is not terribly pressing, since the appointment of a special counsel removed him from the investigation anyway. Sessions is one of several Trump advisers who "forgot" that they met with Russian officials during the presidential campaign or post-election transition. Kushner has denied any improper contacts with Russian Federation. Gorelick urged Kushner to consider choosing someone else to represent him at first, The Times reported.
Trump has denounced the various investigations as a "witch hunt".
"There's a limitation on Twitter, as we all know", Mr. Sekulow said on CNN. Ledgett wrote a memo, according to the source, documenting a conversation in which the president allegedly urged Rogers to help get the FBI to lift the cloud of the Russian Federation investigation.
Trump also reportedly asked Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and CIA Director Mike Pompeo to intercede with Comey on the Flynn case, then later asked Coats and National Security Agency chief Mike Rogers to state publicly that Trump was not personally under investigation.
But Sekulow said repeatedly Sunday that "the president has not been and is not under investigation".
Elsewhere on the Sunday talk circuit, Sekulow was slightly more consistent in his argument.
