Trump Jr. on Sunday confirmed the meeting after The New York Times reported on Saturday that he met with Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya on June 9, 2016, in New York City's Trump Tower.
"So, I really have a feeling you are going to have a very, very peaceful and beautiful Paris".
But this is all getting rather confusing.
Trump Jr. had previously called the June 2016 meeting a "short introductory meeting" that focussed on the issue of child adoption.
During the event in Paris, Mr Trump also blamed members of the Obama administration for allowing Ms Veselnitskaya to be admitted into the United States. If so, why did that not set off alarm bells? Are any of these people from foreign governments?
But Trump cast the meeting as simply standard practice in the cutthroat world of presidential politics, saying he often received phone calls from people saying that had information that could damage Clinton.
The complaint said that Manafort and Kushner, by attending the meeting knowing the subject matter, are also at fault. I think we need dialogue.
Asked at his weekly news conference about Grassley's letter and whether Trump Jr. should testify, House Speaker Paul Ryan didn't object to the move.
Russia's operation used computer commands knowns as "bots" to collect and dramatically heighten the reach of negative or fabricated news about Clinton, including a story in the final days of the campaign accusing her of running a pedophile ring at a Washington pizzeria.
"He took a meeting with a Russian lawyer".
"That's what Putin doesn't like about me", the president added. What other meetings with Russians, whether formal or incidental encounters, do you recall during the course of the campaign? He said Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping both look out for their countries' interests, as he looks out for U.S. interests. "This is obviously very high level and sensitive information, but is part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump". Then, last spring, they began discussing how to help Trump win.
"When they say 'treason, ' you know what treason is?"
The president responded: "No, that I didn't know until a couple of days ago, when I heard about this".
A Senate panel is asking Donald Trump Jr to publicly testify about the meeting.
Democrat U.S. Representative Grace Meng wrote to the Federal Election Commission on Wednesday asking it to take up Common Cause's first complaint against Trump Jr. It was titled "The Great Manipulator" - a nod to media coverage that suggested Bannon wielded considerable influence over the president and his White House.
