Russian-American lobbyist says he also met with Trump Jr. past year

Asked on Friday about Akhmetshin, Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov, told reporters: "We don't know anything about this person".

The former intelligence officer is now a Russian-American lobbyist who holds dual-citizenship, per NBC.

The president's eldest son released on Tuesday an e-mail chain in which he was told that a Russian lawyer with whom he set up a meeting had damaging information concerning Hillary Clinton obtained as part of the Russian government's effort to elect his father president.

The meeting was attended by Donald Trump's son and his then campaign manager Paul Manafort.

Trump Jr.'s attorney, Alan Futerfas, told Fox News he could not confirm Samochornov was at the meeting, but said one of the two other attendees was a USA citizen.

The meeting has heightened questions about whether Mr Trump's campaign coordinated with the Russian Government during the election, which is the focus of federal and congressional investigations. Rob Goldstone, the British music publicist who represents a Russian pop star with ties to Trump and helped arrange the meeting, also told the AP he was in on the meeting.

"She said, 'Why don't you come with me?' I said, 'really?' We were having lunch a few blocks north of Trump Tower". The president also said the meeting was one "most people in politics would have taken".

Veselnitskaya said the Trump campaign would need to research it more.

President Donald Trump told reporters he changed the subject with Russian President Vladimir Putin after pressing him repeatedly about the country's role in meddling in the 2016 USA election.

According to CNN's report, the Trump administration's response to the ordeal is partly what spurred acrimony among staffers in the White House.

Former presidential adviser David Axelrod on Friday praised conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer for saying that Donald Trump Jr.'s failed meeting with the Russian lawyer past year was still collusion by the Republican candidate's campaign.

His district backed Clinton for president in 2016, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and his opponents have criticized him over the news of his meetings with various people related to Russian Federation or the Baltic states.

"Big picture, I think this thing is a bunch of nothing", Kucinich said on "The Fox News Specialists". Knowing of his work with Veselnitskaya, Yahoo News had originally reached him by phone in Moscow on Monday, not long after stories about the lawyer's meeting at Trump Tower first broke.

Akhmetshin's role, or the reason why he would be included in the meeting, is not stated in the emails.

Trump Jr. hired an attorney of his own, Alan Futerfas, earlier in the week.

"They couldn't wait for the meeting to end", Akhmetshin said.
