Whovians are diehard Doctor Who fans, along the same line as Star Trek's Trekkers.
Those connected with the show certainly aren't giving anything away right now.
More important is the impact a female Doctor could have on the future.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Whittaker beat out actresses like Tilda Swinton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge to become the 13th person to play the Doctor. As an alien with regenerative powers, why should the Doctor be limited by gender or race?
Capaldi said "she is a wonderful actress of great individuality and charm".
Capaldi broke the news of his departure back in January. He was scary when he needed to be, but he was unbelievably fun to watch.
The new Doctor will finally be revealed this Sunday and fans are getting excited about the Time Lord's new appearance.

Anna spends her days making films with her thumbs and generally lamenting the state of her life - giving Whittaker a chance to appropriately flex her funny bone. Seeing the Doctor confront being treated differently as a woman during the character's frequent jaunts through history could be eye-opening for some viewers. A young man with the acting chops to pull that off is just amazing! You're doing it because you love it.
However, fans are split on the decision after all 12 former Doctor Who actors where played by male leads.
The 35-year-old Broadchurch star will play the first female Time Lord on the sci-fi show and will debut this Christmas.
Known as "regeneration", it saw Hartnell stagger into his London police box time machine, the Tardis, and collapse; when the shimmering light subsided, actor Patrick Troughton was in his place.
Kris Marshall, who made his name in the sitcom My Family before going on to star in Death In Paradise, had been favourite until yesterday.
He really came into his own by the beginning of his second season and he made the Doctor a dorky rock-and-roll grandfather. His final episode will be the 2017 Christmas special.
