Conte snubs Costa for Chelsea's Premier League opener

12 Août 2017

Chelsea won the title with relative comfort last season in a dream first campaign at the helm for manager Antonio Conte.

Manchester United's opening six matches are against West Ham, Swansea City, Leicester City, Stoke City, Everton and Southampton and a strong start is a must for Mourinho and his men.

The new season is about to kick-off and with that comes the inevitable influx of new players to adore/boo!

"We have spent, yes, but all the teams - with the exception of Tottenham - have spent", Guardiola said. Walker and Mendy also earned more assists individually (5) than all Sagna, Zabaleta, Kolarov and Clichy combined.

Neither Bravo nor his replacement Willy Caballero, now of Chelsea, made it into the top 21 goalkeepers for saves in 2016-17.

And yet Mourinho hinted at a formula he thinks could make the difference for United. That could see Rudiger go straight into the defence, giving him a stern first Premier League test against the likes of Sam Vokes. Some of these are tricky fixtures, but it's against teams like these that United struggled last season.

But in Rooney's early Everton outings he has appeared leaden and again unsure of his best position, failing to score in either leg of their Europa League qualifier win against Ruzomberok.

Man United's Romelu Lukaku (+400) should have the supporting cast to have a big season.

City are generally on offer at 6/4 across bookies as their favourites to win the Premier League this season, with the next best alternative, United nearly 2 points higher in the market.

"I saw last season how tough the league is - it doesn't matter who the top teams are". Away, meanwhile, their record of nine wins, six draws and four defeats ranked fifth. "It's getting much harder for everyone, so we don't know".

"But he's also very humble about himself, he's also still learning the country and Premier League, and hence that's why he's brought in the level of players he has".

These aren't necessarily the best players - although some of them would certainly fall in that group - but rather the ones you should keep an eye on because of the effect their success or failure can have on their clubs' standing in the table.

City certainly haven't let up in the transfer window with numerous players going in and out of the Etihad Stadium in the summer months, with a number of familiar faces been replaced by a new roster of new faces.

I know that won't be a popular choice and that some people are saying they have bought well this summer, but I disagree.

"For sure they are trying to take another step and to try to fight for the title, to try to fight for the Champions League".

"I am pleased with the business City have done in the transfer window so far". Eric Bailly, bought previous year for £30m, and Antonio Valencia, are the only two defenders who look assured of a starting spot.

"Buying from the same league is more hard". Spurs (nine) and United (12) came out best in that category.

The no limits spending of Chelsea's title rivals prompted a tetchy response from Stamford Bridge, where boss Antonio Conte has been grumbling about his club's failure to land Lukaku and several other targets.

Lukaku's not bright enough to play with Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas.

Costa was involved in 27 goals last season (20 goals, seven assists), a huge level of production his fellow Spain worldwide Morata now must provide.

Tottenham's Harry Kane (+275), the two-time reigning Golden Boot victor, is the chalk pick in top scorer futures.
