In an interview that aired on Australian TV on Wednesday, two of Danley's sisters also insisted Danley had no knowledge of the shooting.

Sheriff Lombardo revealed how the chaos unfolded, between the first shot being fired to police entering Paddock's Mandalay Bay hotel room.

The gunman behind Sunday night's mass shooting in Las Vegas planned to flee, and he may have had help with planning the massacre, officials suspect.

According to Lombardo, Danley remains the only person of interest in this case.

"We have produced a profile of someone who is disturbed and dangerous", Sheriff Lombardo said. "In that sense, I thank him for sparing my sister's life".

She said she was devastated by the carnage and she would cooperate with authorities as they struggle to get inside Paddock's mind. She said this had worried her - "first the unexpected trip home and then the money was a way of breaking up with me".

The injured ended up in 13 hospitals scattered across southern Nevada, with most of them treated and released.

Asked if investigators had determined why Paddock carried out the attack, he said, "We are not there yet". The deaths from smoke inhalations would have been far fewer if the fusible links, a small piece of the ventilation system, had been installed properly and stopped smoke from spreading.

The Australian Associated Press reported that Danley was born in the Philippines and moved to Queensland in eastern Australia in the early 1980s. Some falsely believe the Sandy Hook shooting was staged and seized upon a mysterious "man in the woods" as proof of an additional conspirator.

'This individual and this attack didn't leave the sort of immediately accessible thumbprints that you find on some mass casualty attacks, ' Mr McCabe said.

A voicemail recording for Sheila Darcey, Marilou Danley's daughter, directed reporters to her mother's attorney.

"I was trying to talk to him and he wasn't responding", said Heather, an orthopedic surgeon.

Authorities have said Paddock used Danley's loyalty rewards card with MGM Resorts International. I have faith in God, and I will continue to pray for everyone who has been harmed or hurt.

The Las Vegas strip was put on lockdown as cops raced to the scene.

But others suggested there was a darker side to their relationship.

They know he was a major gambler and are looking at related records, though even in very public casinos he played the very private game of video poker.

"He rained down hell on those people". The couple wed in 1990 and their marriage lasted 25 years. Studies reportedly have shown it can trigger aggressive behavior.

The Boston division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is in Las Vegas assisting in the investigation, working with ATF units from Los Angeles, San Francisco and Phoenix.

Trump was criticized in August for declining to more strongly condemn white supremacists in Charlottesville, Virginia, after a protest against the removal of a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee turned violent and a driver fatally struck an anti-protester.

After visiting Puerto Rico on Tuesday, he said "perhaps that [time] will come" for a debate.

Paddock, he said, was "a man who spent decades acquiring guns and ammo".

Danley is a "person of internet", but her sister, who did not want to be identified, told CNN affiliate Seven Network Australia, Danley was not involved. They could have categorized the crime instead as workplace violence - Nolen was embittered by his suspension from his work at a Oklahoma food processing plant.
