Trevor Bauer, Indians shutout Yankees to take Game 1, 4-0

06 Octobre 2017

They'll be back at it tonight when they face the Cleveland Indians in Game 1 of the AL Division Series at Progressive Field.

About a week before the Yankees barrelled through Minnesota in Tuesday's American League Wild Card game at Yankee Stadium, MLB Network studio host Brian Kenny urged the Yankees to enact a strategy he surely understood no team would ever choose to do.

The Indians will send Trevor Bauer to the mound, and the Yankees will counter with Sonny Gray. His win came when Oakland beat Cleveland.

So can the Indians, who don't have a hole in their lineup and finished strong, stringing together 22 straight wins from August 24 to September 14 and winning 33 of their last 37.

However, the Yankees are undaunted, especially after beating the Twins. Yeah, there's a good reason Cleveland is the favorite. When the Indians get baserunners, they should be aggressive on the base paths and keep Sanchez on his toes and take advantage of his potential miscues.

Bauer's shifting usage of his breaking ball prevented the Yankees from unloading on it, even when they expected the pitch.

For the defending champions, Chicago Cubs, their 2017 roster does not look like the juggernaut that led them to the championship previous year. The prop I would like to see is "Will the Cubs-Nationals series victor go on to win the World Series?" This version has grit, youthful self-confidence and unselfishness. Baseball fans should want to see Boston and NY reignite their historic rivalry under the brightest lights here in October to see who goes on to the World Series.

"And that's where Brantley comes into play", Francona said.

With runners at first and second in the eighth, closer Cody Allen got Judge swinging to end the inning - the Yanks' final threat.

Before the last rites could be read, the Yankees' never-say-die character emerged.

Jaime Garcia pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief.

But when you have a pitcher who is the equivalent of a Joe Frazier left hook, why would stop him from taking the mound at the first opportunity? Luis Severino started the game and allowed three earned runs in only one-third of an inning before New York's bullpen was superb the rest of the way.

"Trevor will never back down from a challenge and we love that about him". "Scoring those three runs right in the first inning just showed that there was - what I've seen all year - the fight in this club. The Yankees have a lot of offense so you can not get too comfortable with a 3-0 lead early in the game", senior Twins fan Brock Margenthaler said. But Ervin Santana's career post-season ERA climbed to 6.57, contributing to a first inning that lasted 45 minutes and three innings that took 1:43. In other words, Cleveland isn't creating jams for itself.

There is selflessness with the group. Los Angeles won an Major League Baseball best 104 games this season, but the season definitely had it's up and downs. Matt Holliday hasn't resisted the move to coming off the bench.

"I couldn't have fallen into a better situation", Bruce said. Jason Kipnis has actually looked just fine out there for Cleveland so far, but "just fine" isn't exactly the most secure thing considering this is the postseason, and you're playing a team that hits a lot of flyballs. Corey Kluber leads the risky Indians' pitching staff into the ALDS, along with Carlos Carrasco and Trevor Bauer.

But the Indians aren't going to do it that way. Ouch! Girardi planned this whole pitching rotation weeks ahead of time and look what happened!

"With what (Girardi) can throw at you?"
