Aston Martin Vantage GTE is better still Looking Than the Street Car

22 Novembre 2017

It's the latest Aston to wear the Vantage badge that was first used in 1951 on the DB2 - and replaces the former model that was the best-selling Aston ever. Well, fairly obviously, it's the new Aston Martin Racing Vantage GTE.

Under the bonnet, power comes from a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 like in the regular Vantage.

It was formally unveiled at an event in London on Tuesday, coinciding with the release of the new Aston Martin Vantage road auto.

As originally reported by This Is Money, blogged by MotorAuthority and confirmed to me by Aston Martin's USA -based PR chief Matthew Clarke, today's Vantage had already been designed in 2014 when Spectre was being filmed. The LE taillights encased in a slim curving strip on the edge of the tail could become a signature feature on future Aston Martin cars, according to a spokesperson. The front splitter, for example, sends air beneath the body where a series of fences direct cooling air to where it's most needed.

The new Vantage will cost around 17 million baht in Thailand, considerably more than the preceding model that once asked for three million baht less.

The vehicle is more focused than related DB11 series, Powered by 4.0L twin-turbo V8 that generates 505 pound-feet of torque, enough to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 3.6 seconds and produced by Mercedes-Benz. That makes the vehicle feel much more composed both in a straight line and in corners, according to Aston Martin.

Notably, the Vantage has been developed specifically for the V8 engine, with a V12 version likely to follow. Even special Pirelli P Zero tyres have been developed specifically for the auto.

The new Vantage is 4465mm long and 2153mm wide (including mirrors), with a wheelbase of 2704mm achieved by extending the wheels towards each corner.

While similar to the interior of the DB11, the cabin of the newcomer brings a more focused driving position, while a Sports Plus Pack involving more aggressive seat bolstering, carbon fiber trim and a sports steering wheel is ready to cater to your hooning needs.

Standard kit includes keyless start/stop, tyre pressure monitoring, front and parking sensors and a 20cm infotainment display on the centre stack for audio, phone and music streaming via Bluetooth or USB port and an integrated satellite navigation system. The overall layout is very fancy and is in a league of its own. "It's more of a cockpit feel", said Holgate. Alcantara and leather upholstery round off the luxury interior. Even so, the Vantage is also bigger than before by the same margin. From the looks of it, and what lies underneath those looks, this is the auto that the upcoming BMW M8 will have a hard time competing with.
