The agonizing wait to play again is over for Isaiah Thomas. He will skip the second half of the back-to-back set against the C's Wednesday.
"There's no hard feelings to anybody in this city", Thomas said. Two in a row have turned in revenge games.
Cleveland's offense is only going to get better with IT in the lineup.
"It was a special moment", said Thomas about the reception he got.
To tribute or not to tribute, that is the question (albeit, not a very important one) the Boston Celtics must answer if they wish to end the Isaiah Thomas drama their way.
"It's been a long process for me", Thomas said Monday following practice.
Thomas has said it is up to the Celtics to decide whether they want to honor him during the February 11 game.
"Regardless, if I'm ready or he's not ready or who is or who isn't, that's not up for me to say", Frye said.
Wednesday's game was Boston's 41st game of the season, the most in the National Basketball Association as they head toward a scheduling quirk next week when they play just one game in nine days because of a trip to London.
Wednesday's loss - a 102-88 stinker against the Boston Celtics - shouldn't be all that surprising. On Cleveland's next possession, Thomas spotted up in the corner in front of Cleveland's bench and buried a 3-pointer to give the Cavs a 100-91 lead.
Despite the effort he put into the team, he was shipped out in a move Thomas didn't appreciate.
"I just wanted my family to be here, to experience the love and appreciation this team and city will give me on that night", Thomas said of his reasoning for declining the video tribute tonight. "Obviously my game isn't where I want it to be, but it showed a positive step in the right direction that I'm not far where I want to be".
And Irving knows, even if Thomas is on the bench, what is coming from the crowd. He's quickly going to become indispensable to his new team. They enter 2018 in first place in the Eastern Conference at 30-10. So when Celtics team president Danny Ainge turned around and traded him in a deal that helped Boston land Kyrie Irving, Thomas was understandably upset.
The Celtics scored seven straight points midway through the first quarter to turn a one-point deficit into a 15-9 lead. He's excited to measure up against LeBron James and the defending East champs. "After the shots or whatever is going to come, I feel pretty comfortable playing with these guys". Irving shot 10 for 21 in the game, hitting 47.6% of his attempts from the field (4/4 on free throws, 4/10 from three).
Terry Rozier expects the Garden to be rocking with James in the house.
"I think it won't interfere with Paul", Ainge said. "I know it will be all love", he said. Take the Cavs to cover this line.
They will broadcast up to seven lives games per week throughout the regular season and the first and second rounds of the playoffs, as well as every game of the conference finals and NBA Finals.
