Tuesday morning's heartbreaking loss by University of Georgia to Alabama in the national championship game was a double whammy to Telly Williams, who's still recovering from the Atlanta Falcons' meltdown in last year's Super Bowl.
In a game where everything, including the unexpected, happened, the Alabama Crimson Tide came back to win the NCAA D-1 football national championship by topping the Georgia Bulldogs in a thrilling overtime win, 26-23.
Replacing a starting quarterback in a national championship is nearly unheard of, but for Alabama, it was the difference it needed.
Heisman Trophy victor and current Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota, who went to the same all-boys Catholic school in Honolulu as Tagovailoa, took note of the young QB on Tuesday. I'm proud of what we did this year - a big turnaround from year one to year two. Georgia fans have not had this type of positive energy about this program in decades, and there is no reason that losing the national championship game will bring Georgia down. "The two lower seed teams win, the one team that everyone debated shouldn't be in, actually goes on to win it".
And then there was Monday nights College Football Playoff national championship.
The Alabama Crimson Tide were down and out. The drive ended in a crucial field goal from Pappanastos.
Georgia kicker Rodrigo Blankenship scored two field goals, the second from 27 yards, which carried the Dawgs for most of the game. Georgia's talent level is so strong that when a player, even a star, leaves, the next player won't be that big of a drop off.
The first CFP championship game between OR and Ohio State after the 2014 season drew almost 34 million viewers, a record for ESPN.
"I pursue a relationship with Christ through spending quality time with Him", he said. "That's what everybody that's here comes here to do".
Sure enough, Tagovailoa did just that, completing 14-of-24 passes for 166 yards and three touchdowns.
Tagovailoa, the top-rated dual-threat high school quarterback in the country, immediately showcased his extraordinary talent when he entered in the third quarter, bouncing off three tacklers to run 9 yards on a key third down, setting up his first touchdown pass.
Saban explained after the game that he felt the offense needed what Tagovailoa could provide when he made a decision to move away from Hurts at halftime.
"Jalen and Tua have a phenomenal relationship", tight end Hale Hentges said. It is hard to enjoy sustained success as an SEC quarterback when you are consistently facing some of the best defenses in the country. "You know, it was just a great team effort".
Some would think it would be mixed emotions for Hurts.
