New research has come out that looks at the number of Americans that own a smart speaker along the lines of the Amazon Echo or Google Home devices.

Whirlpool customers can use voice commands anywhere in the house through their digital assistants.

At CES 2018, Google announced the support for Google Assistant for Smart Displays.

TechJuice for Browser: Get breaking news notifications on your browser. That would apparently put the Google Assistant at the heart of a smart home ecosystem, illustrating its close ties and integrations with other hardware from under the Alphabet umbrella like Nest thermostats and the Chromecast streaming adapter. In the smart home of the future, you'll be able to interact with your appliances and devices using only your voice. If you don't know how to prepare something, you can get step by step directions read to you or a quick query will pull up a YouTube video showing you what to do. You can even reserve parking space through SpotHero.

The device is named by LG as WK9. The Smart Display is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 624 Chipset. "Enabling instant access to Google services from the IVI provides new experiences for OEMs to deliver as they continue to seek new ways to connect drivers". You can purchase it in either soft Grey color or natural Bamboo color. "Google has many more languages.so moving forward there are question marks about how long Amazon can sustain the growth".

Lenovo's new hub comes in two formats, one with an 8-inch screen and another with a 10-inch screen. When not in use, you can set it to be a digital picture frame as it displays your pictures from Google photos. Considering that Amazon is now leading in the category of smart home appliances, Google has taken drastic measures to prevent Alexa from moving forward.

On the basic technology level, Alexa has, for competition, Apple's Siri, Google Assistant, Microsoft Cortana and Samsung's Bixby. According to the numbers in the report, 11% of Americans own an Amazon smart speaker, with 4% owning a Google Home device. Though it's to note that Google does offer Google Express, a feature which lets users buy Walgreens, Costco and Toys "R" Us products.

Looking ahead, Google says that the Google Assistant will be coming to smart displays that are powered by Android Things.

But as we've seen at CES, manufacturers think the market is hungry for more smart stuff.

What's your take on this? On the flip side, you better sit back to see the biggest trend - or, put another way, whatever was overkill this particular year.
