ProBeat: Alexa was CES 2018's buzzword

The benefit of this is simpler integration, with one device that not only serves as the connection nexus for all Z-Wave wireless communication, but that can also offer full voice control and provide all of Google's assistant services.

Google, which has not traditionally had a big presence at CES, was out in a big way as it plastered Las Vegas with its ads in a bid to show that Google Assistant is indeed everywhere. Sony should join the Amazon Echo Show-challenging party as well sometime "later this year", provisionally keeping under wraps everything about its own voice-commanded, display-sporting smart speaker. In the past, one model of smart speaker broke and recorded every sound in range.

"Tens of millions of members around the world enjoy the many benefits included with Prime, and in fact, more new paid members joined Prime worldwide this year than any previous year", Amazon Prime's vice president, Greg Greeley, said. Google also announced a new platform that will see companies including Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) release Google Assistant speakers with built-in displays - a product clearly created to take on the Amazon Echo Show. Google is looking to nab more of that real estate as well.

Amazon appears keen to keep Alexa in the walled garden of the Echo family, while Google is allowing Assistant to roam free into new display-touting smart speakers like the JBL Link View and Lenovo Smart Display. The company announced at the show that it was brining Alexa to Windows 10 PCs, starting with HP. Simply saying telling it "Good morning", will make the display light up and show personalised information for users to get ready for the day such as showing the weather, pending activities and appointments.

According to a Bloomberg report, analyst EMarketer estimates Google's Home products will control 25 percent of the 2018 smart speaker market share, which pales in comparison to Amazon's 68 percent market share with the Echo. You can ask it to heat up the seat, lift the lid, play your favorite tunes, and of course, flush.

More and more companies are adopting virtual assistants in all sorts of devices to make them compelling prospects for customers.

If that wasn't enough, Google Assistant will also live inside your vehicle. We got to see a lot of new laptops, monitors, gadgets, speakers, smart home devices, and much, much more this year at the event.

Ribitch agreed: "Like many others, we have concerns about a device that's always on and always listening".
