The lack of runs for David Miller and opener JJ Smuts will be a concern, but with Reeza Hendricks and Farhaan Behardien in decent touch, and Junior Dala getting his worldwide career off to a good start with the ball, South Africa have enough reason to back themselves in the final game.
However, the Proteas, led by Jean-Pau Duminy, in the absence of Faf du Plessis, will look to hit back at India in the second game, especially after a 1-5 thrashing in the One-Day Internationals (ODIs). To chase down 189 is a pretty good effort. The Indian bowlers had to embrace a hard outing and there was one bowler who was on the receiving end particularly. We were looking at 175 with the loss of early wickets.
The focus will be on Suresh Raina and Manish Pandey as the two are facing competition for their spots from the likes of KL Rahul and Kedar Jadhav, who is a strong contender for the middle-order spot despite not being part of the current T20I squad.
"I think it is massively due to the dew that falls at night that changes the wicket completely", he said. Till the 12th over it was fine but with the drizzle, the wicket settled down. Now they are all set to win this T20 and bag the series with still another game to be played.
Riding high on half-centuries scored by Pandey and Dhoni, the Indian team cruised to a total which seemed to be above-par for the South African side. In addition, South Africa's early breakthroughs and composed batting performance - led by skipper Duminy and Heinrich Klaasen - showed them the way forward.
"At the start I was batting according to the DLS and credit must go to the umpires for keeping us on the field". Openers Reeza Hendricks and Jon Smuts took time to settle, but could not capitalize on their starts; they were dismissed by Jaydev Unadkat and Shardul Thakur respectively.
"They (Hendricks and Behardien) gave us a chance in the game. I faced Shaun von Berg (leg-spinner) at the Titans (Klaasen's domestic team) a lot as well", he said when asked about Chahal.
"They (India) came at us but the key for us was taking the wickets and we got three up front".
Just a few days back, in the fourth ODI at the Wanderers in what was another rain-hit tie, Chahal had been taken to the cleaners by Klaasen. But after a brief chat with Pandey, Raina left the ground, paving the way for Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
The bouncer's been used excessively - since about the third Test - and needs to be used more as a surprise element by the home team.
