Calls for more equality in Church on International Women's Day

10 Mars 2018

In the Student Hub of Portland Building, the Women's Network at the University of Nottingham (UoN) organized a crafts corner, refreshments and a whiteboard inviting students to tell why they are celebrating this day. Although I see a lot of change in the environment for women entrepreneurs from 2011 when I started. Women have played and continue to affect the progress of this world positively.

According to the report, we are still 200 years away from gender parity -which compares the average income of women compared to men. In 1911, International Women's Day was first marked in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland.

International Women's Day has been around for more than a century.

Moreover, I have worked with Congress to enact policies that encourage American women to pursue careers in the global arena. Involvement in these efforts will provide women with important opportunities to use their skills and abilities to mediate hard situations and to keep our country safe.

For its part, China established Women's Day as an official holiday in 1949.

The United Nations theme for the day was The Time is Now, recognizing the activism that is changing women's lives and that which is still needed.

As many sought to commemorate IWD2018, women, non-binary and gender non-conforming folks in the comics-verse took to Twitter to celebrate those who have inspired them.

"Gender equality is enshrined in countless laws, and harmful practices like female genital mutilation and child marriage have been outlawed in many countries". This gap widens for women of color, with African American women earning only 57 cents, Latinas earning 51 cents, and Asian women earning 68 cents for every dollar earned by white, non-Hispanic men.

Women's representation, Guterres said, in national parliaments stands, on average, at less than one quarter, and in boardrooms, it is even lower.

Granted. There are programmes both by government and private sector to empower women and deal with the challenges such as maternal mortality, early marriages, unemployment rates, land ownership, inclusion, property ownership, and security, among other rights.

"It is celebrated to enhance the worldwide awareness about women, their rights, their contributions, importance of education for them, their career opportunities and much more".
