Adams State University, with a time of 9:44.37 and Stonehill rounded out the top five, as American International College fell behind the Skyhawks with a time of 9:51.19, good for sixth.
It was a very strong first day for the Auburn track and field team at the NCAA Indoor Championships as all five competitors advanced to Saturday's finals, including sophomore sprinter Raheem Chambers who had the top qualifying time in the men's 60m.
The best performance of the day for A&M came from Will Williams in the men's long jump. In the pentathlon this year, Schultz accelerated by claiming the top NCAA score with a 4,502 scored at the Texas Tech Shootout on February 9.
Mia Bennett cemented her status as one of the all-time greats in the history of the Carthage women's track and field program Friday.
"It's always hard for a freshman (especially looking at my freshman year) to come out and to perform so well, especially at a championship meet".
"I just need to be more aggressive". "Because he went into that race pretty much unranked and ended up finishing in third place".
It marks the second straight indoor season that Pernell will be competing at the NCAA Championships.
Adams was recognized for his performance this year earlier this week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as the South Central Regional Men's Field Athlete of the Year. "So going in, I'm going to try to not think about that", Schultz said to K-State Sports.
"It doesn't get any bigger than this, with us hosting the NCAA Championships indoors", said Aggie head coach Pat Henry, who is in his 14 season with Texas A&M. "That's my goal again this year". He has won all four indoor 800m MW championships during his career, and this is his first trip to the indoor national championships.
Zallow ran a time of 7.72 seconds to finish behind Florida's Grant Holloway who ran a winning time of 7.58 seconds while Syracuse's Freddie Crittenden III finished second at 7.67 seconds. The DMRs are coming off taking first place at ACCs on February 22, with the women running a school-record time and the men a season best. By advancing to the finals, Zallow will earn first-team All-American honors for the second year in a row. "I've been continuously getting better every year".
"This weekend is going to be a time our jumps group breaks barriers", stated Williams. "I really want to go to outdoors". "The start wasn't as good, but I kept my composure through the middle of the race and pulled through with the win", Chambers said. "I brought my PlayStation up here thankfully so I can keep my mind off of the meet and relax by playing video games so I don't go insane thinking about the meet". Then finally I hear coach Ryan yelling from across the track. Her time made her the eighth and final qualifier for Saturday's championship final.
