Marcus Rashford double helps Manchester United beat Liverpool 2-1

Liverpool failed to cope with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday as they slumped to a 2-1 defeat.

Klopp's fearsome attack of Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah was effectively shut down by Jose Mourinho's United, who stormed into a two-goal lead inside the opening half-hour thanks to a brace from Marcus Rashford.

We had a lot of okay moments, two good moments in the first half where we could finish better.

"So when I say to a striker, "Go there and do that job for me", then he is a sergeant".

"It's a good thing the first chance he had. he scored, because I think, in the last two months, that was not happening with him".

Jose Mourinho admits he has not got the best out of Alexis Sanchez since his January transfer because the former Arsenal forward moved to Manchester United at the "wrong" time.

Manchester United have five centre-backs, but they always look poorer in defence without Eric Bailly, the Ivorian who has been missing through injury for too long.

"But we are very similar in terms of points in the Premier League".

There were unsavoury scenes at London Stadium where pitch invasions and mass protests in the stands forced owners David Sullivan and David Gold to leave the director's box, with police brought in to restore order.

"Obviously to concede two nearly identical goals was frustrating and it was hard to break them down today because they sat back waiting for the counter-attack".

Said Rashford of making the most of his limited minutes: "It's partly been patience but you have to be ready for your chance".

There were a few reasons as to why United fended off Liverpool easily.

Those comments may not be surprising, but Mourinho's stance on Liverpool counterpart Jurgen Klopp perhaps is.

The 26-year-old Netherlands worldwide made his first steps in British football at Celtic and relished the fierce crosstown showdowns with Rangers in Glasgow.

"With Romelu Lukaku, he can win the headers sometimes - we did it afterwards [won the headers], but in these two situations we didn't".

The result saw United open up a four-point lead in second on the table, while Liverpool fell to fourth.

Klopp said he was pleased with his side's reaction after they were 2-0 behind after only 24 minutes.

United are on form at the moment, coming from behind to win against Chelsea and Crystal Palace cementing their spot on the log (2nd).
