Crashing between the circles, Evans slid the puck five-hole on Lagivne, who was sliding back across the crease, to send the Irish into the title game for the second time in program history.

Jake Evans' goal with 5.2 seconds left broke a 3-3 tie and lifted the Fighting Irish to a 4-3 win over MI and a spot in Saturday's national championship game.

"I think this is what everyone envisioned when the new leagues all started to form, that the Big Ten would be like this", MI coach Mel Pearson said. The winners of those two games play for the national title on Saturday. I talked about it at length with some of our older players that trust us.

The realization had already set in that he would never wear that MI maize and blue again and Dancs' emotions couldn't be hidden. "We talked about how exciting this was and how it seemed fitting that this game should end in overtime considering how many overtime games we won that year", Clusiau recalled.

"We lost seven (seniors), and three guys left early to the National Hockey League". It's the first time since 2008 that the Wolverines have advanced to the Frozen Four.

The Buckeyes' season ends with a record of 26-10-5. Duluth lost 3-2 to Denver in the title game last season in Chicago. The Bulldogs (24-16-3) will face the Michigan/Notre Dame victor in national championship game at 6 p.m. Saturday.

"It's heartbreaking", Dancs said. "A lot of people didn't believe in us". We weren't the most talented team, by far. We didn't have the most talent. On the flip side, no team gets to the Frozen Four without any of it. We had so much fun playing hockey this year.

MI controlled the early going, scoring at 8:19 of the first and taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Calderone's team-leading 25th goal of the season opened the scoring at 8:19 of the first period.

U-M for the most part dominated the first period of play, but was unable to score a few times. It hit off of the shoulder of Notre Dame defenseman Dennis Gilbert and into the net for a two-goal MI lead. MI will need to keep the puck moving laterally in front of Morris, to try to catch him out of position, and the sooner Calderone and Marody can get going- the better. Minutes later, it was a time game thanks to who? Gross had two assists.

Evans finished the game with two goals and Burke tallied one.

Shortly after falling behind two goals, the Irish went on their second power play of the night. We got a real good defensive group and a good goaltender. But with 5:22 left in the game, freshman forward Michael Pastujov scored to tie the game up at three. Junior forward Dylan Malmquist connected with sophomore forward Cal Burke for a goal that gave Notre Dame its first lead of the game.

"It was a basic two on two and I give them credit", Pearson said.

Considering the force of the impact it made on the sport, the Big Ten hockey conference sure started with a soft launch.

"Tough way to lose".

Pearson said there's no good easy way to lose. You could feel it in warm-ups, and I hope it's the same way because I thought that game was an outstanding hockey game and I expect the same thing Saturday. "As a defenseman, when a guy is flying at you like that, it's hard to make a good play with the puck".

All he has to do is take a look down at the Bulldogs bench. "Because I remember in 2011 when we came out, the building was electric". They also need to limit their penalties to protect their suspect penalty kill unit from having to defend against Notre Dame's opportunistic power play unit. This is a different team, different players.

Senior captain Tony Calderone labeled the season his favorite year of hockey in his life. Like Dexter said we had so much fun this year on and off the ice, never a boring day coming to the rink.
