Nokia launches three new smartphones

Should competition worry about the latest from Nokia?

According to the latest leak, the Nokia 9 is a dual-SIM (Nano) smartphone that will run Android 8.1 Oreo - it is also listed to be an Android One smartphone, like all the mid- and top-end Android models unveiled by HMD Global at MWC 2018. The smartphone will be available to pre-book from April 20 onwards, available in Black colour.

Question: How is the display of the Nokia 8 Sirocco? If we ignore the limited new features offered in these devices, the rest is just an iteration of old technology. The 18:9 aspect ratio display comes with Full 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for added screen protection. The display quality looked crisp and felt responsive to the touch. First up, we aren't surprised of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset appearing there, as well as having 8GB of RAM, but what intrigues us is that the internal storage will be a enormous 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage. The first variant comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage and the second variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB of inbuilt storage. Societe Generale set a €8.30 ($10.25) target price on shares of Nokia Oyj and gave the company a "buy" rating in a research note on Monday, February 5th.

On the positive side, HMD announced that it will stick to the Android One platform which will help in the faster device updates. It has Zeiss optics, though rear camera is still 16MP.

The Nokia 9 is believed to have 4 cameras in total, the three on the rear are 41/20/9.7-megapixel with Zeis optics and a 4x optical zoom. There is an 8 MP frontal sensor which comes with f/2.0 aperture.

On the front, you'll find a single 16-megapixel sensor which employs ZEISS optics as well. The new addition to imaging however is the "Bothie mode' which allows the users to use both the rear and front camera simultaneously to create a bothie". For selfies, it is mounted with 16MP front camera with ZEISS optics. However, majority were priced in a lower segment. The camera was quick to focus and captured decent images in the low light situation. Without explaining in detail, the company confirmed that there will be special cash back offers for Nokia 7 Plus customers. There's also support for fast charging that's claimed to fill up the battery from nothing to 50 per cent within 30 minutes.

Connectivity options on Nokia 9 include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, Glonass, USB Type-C, and NFC.

Nokia 7 Plus is a beautifully designed smartphone with aluminium body and it adopts the modern design language with thinner bezels. "As the value market leader in feature phones, we understand the barriers and challenges people face when it comes to the step up to a smartphone which is why we've made our most accessible smartphone ever". So enough to keep any serious buyer who likes the Nokia badge, really interested. For a more detailed analysis, come back for our full review of the Nokia 7 Plus.
