By smashing that estimate, "A Quiet Place" helped propel the weekend box office up by 35.3 percent from a year ago.
There's no introductory montage to set things up, a la "The Fellowship of the Ring". Occasionally, its set-pieces feel contrived or unnecessary, and occasionally it strays too far into B-movie kitschiness. Krasinski told Vulture, "I can't tell you how many times my agent has called me and said, 'So Ryan Gosling got the part.' " He added, "That's how it should go, by the way - he's Ryan Gosling!" Each member of the Abbott family is wrestling with their own physical, emotional or psychological demons, whether it's Lee's inability to connect with his kids or daughter Regan's resentment toward her father. Blunt is fantastic as a mother determined to protect her family while being scared out of her wits.
Would you want to see A Quiet Place sequel? And I remember it was one of the lines that when Emily read the script, that's why she did it. The film also starsMillicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe. As the man attempts to get rid of the intruders, things start to get violent and you eventually realize that he might have ulterior motives for getting them out of his house. It had lots of teeth, a rail-thin, tall frame and a heightened sense of hearing to detect and attack any sound.
John Krasinski is well-known for his breakthrough role as Jim Halpert on the United States version of the hit sitcom The Office and the relationship his character had with Pam Beesley, played by Jenna Fischer, has become an internet meme.
Given the unusual marketing strategies of previous Cloverfield movies, the theory seemed somewhat plausible, but A Quiet Place itself has no ties to the series.
And it works like gangbusters, if Krasinski may say so himself. While Steve Carell's portrayal of clueless boss Michael Scott got all the awards attention, Jim quickly became a fan favorite, particularly because of his love triangle with receptionist Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer).
"A Quiet Place" keeps the audience's attention for the entire hour and 30 minutes and doesn't waste any time. And they said: "Well, the idea is that this family can't make any noise and you have to figure out why". The lack of dialogue has earned the film strong reviews for the concept and cinematography under John Krasinski's directorship and co-writing role.
With one of the best per-theatre performances of the year, Amazon's You Were Never Really Here, starring Joaquin Phoenix, opened with $129,911 in three theatres. But not without sound: The movie's ingenious sound design includes the gentle cadences of nature at its most quietly reassuring.
And though occasionally it can falter, "A Quiet Place" is both stirringly thoughtful and remarkably entertaining.
