Proposed 4J bond would make schools safer, board says

Pink slips are tentative notifications that districts are required to put out toward the end of the school year if they need to notify a teacher of a potential layoff.

The changes adopted during the latest negotiations include cuts to a funding pool for year-end outstanding-performance bonuses and the reduction of several jobs, which Leonard said he believes the district can achieve through retirements and other attrition.

Thompson in the past have addressed her issues with firing McClain which included long-term substitute teachers in classrooms, large classroom sizes, unsupervised students and an issue previous year involving a late loan payment made by McClain's staff in which a bank admitted fault.

The total cost for the projects is $581,743.

The school district employs the equivalent of four full-time music instructors split between four schools.

She said if she's selected to be the new superintendent, she's looking forward to learning more about the community and focusing on the kids education.

"I'm in it for the long haul", Salato said.

"We just became more and more aware after the Parkland, Florida, you just have to stop and think there's a large gap of time sometimes between when first responders can get there and when the incident starts", Lauer said.

She said she recognizes it will be hard initially for people in the two affected communities to see the schools close but that she thinks the process will be in the best interest of the students in the long run.

"I disagree with that", Dockter said.

Hoover is a tremendous place to be, with a great school board, teachers and administrators, and she loves the students in Hoover, she said.
