Trump Promises Decision on Military Action Against Syria in Next Two Days

15 Avril 2018

The US is finalising plans for a military response against the regime of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, which is being propped up by Russian Federation and Iran.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the USA has a number of options on the table but added that a final decision has not been reached.

Energy Aspects' Mallinson said Trump's reference to Iran could be viewed as further evidence the US president is not likely to renew the Iranian nuclear agreement.

"We're talking about humanity and it can't be allowed to happen", he said.

Reports suggested that more than 500 people, mostly women and children, were taken to medical centres with breathing problems, foaming at the mouth and with burning sensations in the eyes.

A day after saying missiles would be flying toward Syria, President Trump sowed uncertainty about his plans Thursday by claiming he never said "when" there would be an attack, and reserving a final decision for at least another day.

Trump's threat of retaliatory military action prompted a slew of Russian comments warning that US strikes could trigger a direct military clash between them.

U.S. President Donald Trump warned Russian Federation on Wednesday of imminent military action in Syria over a suspected poison gas attack, declaring that missiles "will be coming" and lambasting Moscow for standing by Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Trump has made no secret about his hostility toward Mueller in recent days.

The suspected chemical weapons attack has sparked a fresh diplomatic crisis between Syria, its allies Iran and Russian Federation, and the West over the seven-year Syrian civil war. He also charged that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iran shared responsibility.

"We will try to make it better but it is a troubled place", Trump said.

"Parliament should always be given a say on any military action", he told the BBC.

The Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote on Facebook: "Smart rockets ought to fly towards terrorists and not at a lawful government".

Russia's envoy to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov said his country has warned the USA against striking Syria, stating that "Russia has warned US representatives, publicly as well as through proper channels, over the grave consequences that could arise if these strikes happen and whether deliberately or otherwise Russian citizens are hurt".

Trump has slammed Russian Federation for its partnership with "Gas Killing Animal" Assad, spurring concerns that a USA strike could lead to a conflagration with Russian Federation, which has major military facilities at Tartus and Khmeimim and works cheek-by-jowl with Syria forces that could be targeted.

Trump didn't say whether he was referring to a USA military strike.

Last Saturday, the rebels in Douma district of Eastern Ghouta said the Syrian forces used chlorine gas in an attack on Douma, leaving many killed.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has summoned her cabinet back from vacation to discuss possible military action against Syria.

Earlier, Russia's United Nations envoy, Vassily Nebenzia cautioned the "refrain from the plans that you're now developing", saying Washington would "bear responsibility" for any "illegal military adventure".

The White House says President Donald Trump has decided not to attend a summit in South America this week to remain in the manage the crisis.

Government forces deny using chemical weapons, as does Russian Federation, which backs Assad in Syria. Syria denies the accusation.
