Hours before the interview aired, the president, who fired Comey previous year, unleashed a Twitter outburst that labeled Comey "slippery", suggested he should be put in jail and branded him "the WORST FBI Director in history, by far!"
Donald Trump is "morally unfit" to be president, former FBI Director James Comey said in a highly anticipated prime-time interview Sunday, adding that he couldn't rule out the possibility that the Russian government has incriminating information about the president. In a statement Sunday, Lynch said she was simply following longstanding Justice Department protocol against confirming or denying the existence of an investigation. He believes Americans are "duty bound" to "go to the voting booth and vote their values".
"The foundation of this country is in jeopardy when we stop measuring our leaders against that central value of the truth", Comey said in an exclusive interview with ABC News chief anchor George Stephanopoulos.
Comey even took aim at Trump's personal appearance, remarking how his "tie was too long, as it always is" and that his face "looked slightly orange up close with small white half-moons under his eyes, which I assume are from tanning goggles". At one point in the interview, Stephanopoulos asks Comey how unusual it must feel to make that comparison.
"He said if there's even a 1 per cent chance my wife thinks that's true, that's awful", Comey recalled.
After his time working with the president, Comey says he believes Trump is unfit for his job.
"I'm about to meet a person who doesn't know me, who's just been elected president of the United States".
He also said he was anxious the president may be open to blackmail by Russian Federation over alleged incidents involving prostitutes in Moscow in 2013.
After the Steele dossier, which had been funded by Democrats during the campaign, was published by Buzzfeed days later, Comey spoke with Trump about the matter again by phone.
In true Trump fashion, the president punched back hard on Twitter unleashing a rare double tweet.calling Comey "a weak and untruthful slime ball".
"I mean, I don't know whether it was weird for President-elect Trump, but I- it was nearly an out-of-body experience for me", Comey said of his meeting with then-president-elect Trump.
Speaking on Sunday's "Reliable Sources" on CNN, former presidential adviser David Gergen said that Comey "can be a showboat".
Asked how freaky that meeting with Trump was, Comey said: "Very weird".
Former FBI director James Comey has unleashed on Donald Trump in his latest television interview, describing the US President as someone who will "stain everyone around him".
He calls Trump "untethered to the truth" is "ego-driven" and runs the White House like a "mob boss".
Would he have still sent the letter, Mr. Stephanopoulos asked, if he knew it would get Mr. Trump elected? "There's no way I'd let people pee on each other around me". "What she did was really sloppy", Comey said.
Former Attorney General Loretta Lynch is defending her actions in the Hillary Clinton email investigation following criticism from Comey.
After he was sacked, Comey said, Trump issued an order that he was not to be allowed back in the Federal Bureau of Investigation building, even to retrieve his belongings.
