City had registered a 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Saturday.

The only goal was scored by Jay Rodriguez midway through the second half, to make United pay for their lack of creativity and zest, winning only their fourth match of the season. Vincent Kompany did, with images showing the City captain celebrating at his in-laws' house where he was having dinner. What a great feeling! "So happy to be able to share another trophy with our awesome fans", the 32-year-old Belgian defender said on Twitter.

City need just nine points from their final games to set a new record for most Premier League points, while another 11 goals would see them set a new goal-scoring record.

If I was in that position, I would be very upset if they say they won the title because Manchester United lost to West Brom.

United had beaten City in a stunning comeback during the derby, denying them the title, but denied that win was the most important win of the season. With the lead, the Etihad outfit became impossible to topple from the pinnacle of the Premier League table, consequently winning it with a remarkable 5 games to spare. Yet, in order to do that, they would have to repeat performances like that one for the best part of the 38 matches. "This is not a dynasty, it is one title we've won".

"I saw lots of people over the moon because we won against City".

"I congratulate them", Mourinho said.

City lost three successive games in which they were dumped out of the Champions League by Liverpool and missed out on the chance to seal title glory against rivals Manchester United.

Even Tinder got in on the act, tweeting: "Looks like we swiped right on a victor".

The result sparked celebrations among the Light Blue half of Manchester but Mourinho said City's title deserved to be recognised for its true value.

He said: "We know we have to compete until the last week". "Very happy to call us champions this year".

'Everybody will try to improve - like we did from last season.

Pep Guardiola masterminded a successful regime at Barcelona where he won 14 trophies in Spain. Eight titles. Three Premier League.

He also conceded it was sweet to triumph in a country where some critics claimed his purist principles couldn't flourish.

Quick-forward to Sunday April 15, 2018 and Guardiola's Metropolis aspect has achieved a home double, including the Premier League to the League Cup they received in February.

At the start of the season, they were dominating teams and being tipped to challenge City for the crown.

"Liverpool beat us in two games and congratulations to them".
