NFL Draft: If these EDGEs were QBs

19 Avril 2018

The draft is heavily scrutinized by fans and analysts. That paved the way for the Giants to select and trade fellow QB Philip Rivers and draft picks, which they packaged in a deal to the Chargers for Manning.

Two of those four busts are quarterbacks and that's no coincidence.

If this scenario plays out next weekend, it would be just the second time six quarterbacks were selected in the first round, joining the legendary 1983 class.

Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold will all have the chance to become big-impact players in the NFL. But what about Lamar Jackson?

Mayfield, the 2018 Heisman victor, is one of the players Arizona is considering drafting No. 15 overall in the National Football League draft, though he is expected to be picked well before the Cardinals pick. In part because of his height (6-foot-5), some project him to be a guard at the next level. "Great year with four different quarterbacks, then he tests off the charts with the broad jump and the vertical jump, which was in the elite category". However, with so many RBs in this draft and with Walton coming off an ankle injury, he could easily be in the 6 Round. Hebstreit added that Darnold should have stayed at USC for his senior season to mature in some areas. Instead, Jeff gets his pick of the litter, and selects his top quarterback on the board. However, he never completed more than 56 percent of his passes in college and his accuracy diminishes even further when on the move.

Ward is expected to be a first-round pick, and to go very early in the first round as well. He has been in to visit the Browns (as has every other QB).

Kiper agreed, calling O'Neill a "really good athlete who needs to get stronger". Rosen is a risky pick due to his off-the-field issues and general lack of leadership skills. With all this in account, Rosen is still being considered as the first pick. Saquon Barkley gets profiled by Sports Illustrated about the many different ways in which he's driven to succeed but also wants to become a #brand and the "Face of the League" and along the way it gets mentioned his marketing team would prefer he be in NY to Cleveland? They are productive, put the team on their backs, dominant for stretches, and take over games nearly by themselves. It is a common belief that he can go in day one and be a competitive N.F.L. quarterback. If it's anything the Jets learned tremendously on that key statistic is when they overreached for Christian Hackenberg in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. It remains to be seen whether the Browns have mutual feelings for Mayfield.

All three teams achieve the main goal of what they initially wanted heading into the draft, while still retaining draft picks.

Before the team gathered for the start of the offseason program Monday, Taylor helped orchestrate and run a week of workouts and team bonding in Florida.

Gordon signed a one-year minimum contract for $790,000 for 2018.

The NFL Draft has a total of seven rounds, and each team has the same number of draft picks.
