President Donald Trump claimed that memos written by former FBI Director James Comey "show clearly" that the Trump campaign did not collude with Russian Federation during the 2016 election, and that Trump has not obstructed justice amid ensuing investigations.
"In one of them, [Comey] went through and redacted out the classified information". "This thing smells very badly, and I think he's going to have to answer more questions about that".
By announcing so close to election day that the FBI had reopened the investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails, Comey quite possibly tilted the election in Trump's favour.
"Former FBI director James Comey walks through a corridor on the way to a secure room to continue his testimony to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, on Capitol Hill in Washington, Thursday, June 8, 2017". Comey has said he suspected Trump was seeking a "patronage relationship" with him.
Comey, told Trump that he was "eager to find leakers and would like to nail one to the door as a message", but explained that prosecuting reporters was "tricky".
The Comey broadside came during a busy morning for Trump on Twitter, which also saw him take shots at OPEC for causing "artificially" high oil prices and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi over taxes.
Trump has repeatedly taken aim at Comey - at one point calling him an "untruthful slimeball" - as the former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief conducts a publicity tour to promote his new book, A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership, a 304-page tell-all that portrays the president as an ego-driven congenital liar.
"In fact, when I made a decision to just do it, I said to myself, you know, this thing with Trump and Russian Federation is a made-up story, an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election".
Asked to describe that January 6, 2017 meeting two weeks before Trump took office, Comey said: "Really weird". During an interview Friday on Fox News' "The Ingraham Angle", Mukasey said Obama wanted Comey to let Clinton "off" the hook because Obama believed, "if you wind up accusing her, you wind up accusing me". The Comey memo confirms his good judgment.
The Justice Department's inspector general concluded that McCabe misled officials under oath about authorizing the disclosure. "Andy McCabe looked up to Jim Comey". He eventually became USA attorney for the Southern District of NY in 2002 before being appointed deputy attorney general by Bush.
Atleast a few of those memos Comey gave into a friend contained classified info, " the Journal reported. But both sides can't be right that I'm in the other team's pocket, which is what I hear all the time.
Sure, the focus should be on Trump, his maladroit and possibly illegal attempts to strong-arm Comey to drop his investigation of then national security adviser Michael Flynn; his heavy-handed demands for loyalty; his many references, some blacked out, to Vladimir Putin; and even his lurid references to Russian prostitutes. After he left office, he shared some of the unclassified memos with a friend, parts of which were then shared with a reporter for the New York Times.
