"Under no circumstances would we seek any weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons", he solemnly announced.
It's not as simple as just saying "we're out" of the Iran nuclear deal.
That will depend on: the extent to which France, Germany and Britain insist that their companies can continue to do business with Iran under what is an worldwide agreement ratified unanimously by the UN Security Council; the level of diplomatic support for Iran from Russian Federation, its partner in Syria; and how much China wishes to bind Iran into its Belt and Road foreign trade and investment initiative.
Kerry declined to comment on the report. If the USA were to withdraw from the deal, the implications could be far-reaching.
The president attacked Kerry as "not the best negotiator we have ever seen". Macron made clear during his recent visit to the United States that he hopes President Trump will not pull out.
Syria's on-going civil war has provoked strong reactions around the world. But beyond specifics, he seems to be as violently opposed to the Tehran regime as he was to Mr Kim. "But I also believe there are areas in which it will be very important to have a meaningful dialogue because I see the region in a very risky position", he said. He added, "Wherever there's a problem, Iran is right there".
Yet the key question is whether Iran would resume nuclear activities, such as enrichment and processing, beyond the limits that were imposed by the deal - and how aggressively. In exchange, Iran regained access to the global banking system and could sell its oil again on the world market.
The May 12 deadline for announcements on potential new USA sanctions on Iran bolstered the market, said Bob Yawger, director at Mizuho. And Iranian officials haven't explicitly ruled out the possibility that if Trump blows up the nuclear deal, Iran may also leave the Nonproliferation Treaty.
As on several other issues, the United States president is the Western alliance's odd man out. In return, the next quarter's economic sanctions are waived against the Islamic Republic. Under US law, the President has to recertify the agreement every few months.
"We stand before a critical decision by Trump regarding the nuclear agreement", the official told Channel 10.
On May 12, he faces a deadline on whether to renew the waivers that eased one basket of sanctions: those on Iran's central bank, meant to hit Iranian oil exports.
Mr Trump has stuck to his niche of unpredictability and has kept many people guessing on what his decision will be as the May 12 deadline approaches. Despite that taunting experience, we still spent a fraction of countries like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates on defense, and our missiles have a shorter range than those of Saudi Arabia. It is an arms dealer to the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
As for Iran's current compliance, of course it's complying.
While Israel is largely believed to possess nuclear weapons, it has neither confirmed nor denied the information. Republicans took the extraordinary step of inviting the leader of a foreign country, Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu, to speak before Congress - without telling President Obama - to argue against the pending deal.
Israel's hawkish defence minister, Avigdor Lieberman, who was also recently in Washington, is full of dire predictions.
DEPUTY MINISTER Michael Oren (Kulanu), who was deeply involved in preventing Iran's nuclearization for more than four years as ambassador to the USA, told the Post he was "mind-boggled" that Netanyahu's presentation did not immediately persuade everyone in Israel and leaders around the world that Iran intends to continue its nuclearization.
"It's not new that they lied back then", he said.
