The frustration of the fans, along with the continuous disputes between the Chelsea board and the manager, has raised speculation Conte will not be around for another season.

Asked whether the Newcastle game had been his last in charge in the Premier League, he said: "Do you think so?"

The Italian has feuded with Chelsea's hierarchy over their failure to back his transfer plans a year ago and has done little to quell the impression he would be willing to leave.

It is also said that the relationship between Hazard and Conte became "strained" as the campaign has progressed.

"I'm the last person to judge the moment of the club". Alas no such red card was presented to him, and Chelsea fans will be steeling themselves for the logic-defying omission of Willian next Saturday in favour of the inadequate Bakayoko.

"I would like to thank Rafa Benitez for his magnificent achievement this season", the statement read.

Chelsea would have to wait another four years before they were finally able to win their first Champions League title. Even if Chelsea qualify for Champions League, it might not be enough for Conte to keep his job.

Newcastle haven't been great at home this season as they hold the division's 13th best home record, while Chelsea have been impressive away from home and are 4th in the league based on their away record.

Yet, having inherited a Chelsea side that finished 10th after a turbulent season which had seen former manager Jose Mourinho sacked and Guus Hiddink working as an interim coach, he feels they are in a stronger position now than in 2016.

The Seagulls lost to Manchester City in the last round but have lost just one of their last four games, including a victory over Manchester United.

The Chelsea boss holding his hands up: 'From the start, Newcastle outplayed us in every way...they deserved to win'.

Cahill suggested Chelsea were focused on next weekend's FA Cup final against Manchester United, but would be irritated if any members of the team had taken the clash at St James' Park lightly.

Chelsea, who spent around £50m in the January transfer window on three new players, are still determining whether or not to replace Emenalo directly or dilute the role's duties, many of which are now being overseen by the influential director Marina Granovskaia.

Perez got in on the act with a scuffed attempt which nearly found the far bottom corner but from Chelsea's perspective, Antonio Conte's men reached the break having failed to register a single shot.

"Of course I want to play in the Champions League, but it isn't a priority".

Antonio Conte has cut an increasingly frustrated figure this season and Redknapp doubts he will stay at Chelsea beyond the summer. A good season is followed immediately by one where they perform poorly.
