The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting to address the violent clashes between Palestinian protestors and Israeli forces along the Gaza Strip's border with Israel, a Palestinian envoy said on Monday.
President Donald Trump's daughter, Ivanka, her husband Jared Kushner and US Treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin joined Israeli officials at the unveiling of a plaque near the existing consulate in Jerusalem.
"Today, Jerusalem is the seam of Israel's government". Israel says its forces are responding to violence emanating from the protests, which it views as a threat to its citizens' lives and property.
"May there be peace", Trump said.
"While presidents before him have backed down from their pledge to move the American embassy once they were in office, this president delivered".
"You will recall at the time the United States announced they would be moving their representation to Jerusalem we stated at that time strongly that we did not believe that would take us closer to peace and it hasn't", Ardern said.
Israel captured East Jerusalem in the 1967 Middle East war and annexed it in a move not recognised by the global community.
Kushner instructed the gang that historical past will do not forget that the "journey to peace" started with the USA "recognising the reality" and Benjamin Netanyahu instructed Trump he had "made historical past".
"Jerusalem must remain a city that brings people of all faiths together".
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the opening of the USA embassy as "a day that will be engraved in our national memory for generations".
"What an unbelievable day!"
Ms Davidson said the "slaughter" was evidence that President Trump's move made peace less likely, and life more unsafe for those living in Gaza. As in so many other areas, the swamp will resist the President as long as it can.
"We condemn this action in the strongest possible terms", Mansour said.
Protesters began amassing at the Gaza border ahead of the embassy ceremony.
Fourteen protesters were arrested for confronting police officers and interrupting public order, Jerusalem police said. The unveiling comes around the 70th anniversary of establishing Israel as a Jewish state.
The spokesman added that the government and people of Pakistan stand firmly with the Palestinian people.
Jerusalem is a 5,000-year-old holy city of religious significance for Jews, Christians and Muslims, with Palestinians arguing it is their homeland.
Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem is not recognised internationally.
The decision has been widely criticized by leaders in the Middle East.
"We are here to tell Trump that what he is doing is against global law". Vietnam has also expressed concerns at the decision, which it claims will negatively affect peace and stability in the Middle East.
Global condemnation also came from France, which said it "disapproves" of the relocation.
Following the leadership meeting, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Malki said in statements to the official Palestinian TV and radio station that the Palestinians have requested an urgent UN Security Council meeting that is scheduled to convene Tuesday to address the Palestinian demand for global protection.
