California primary election, San Diego County races, when to expect results

06 Juin 2018

About 2.3 percent of registered voters in the county - or 118,522 voters - were missing on the lists for Tuesday's primaries, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Polls will be open for primary voters until 9 p.m.

SENATE: Sen. Roger Wicker was in danger of having to face a primary challenger when Sen. Bob Menendez, a Democrat who faced federal bribery charges previous year, was expected to do the same. The victor will face incumbent Gov. Kim Reynolds, who wasn't opposed for the Republican nomination. "He will make a BIG difference!"

Voters in the central San Joaquin Valley came out for the governor's race Tuesday, with Democrats and Republicans saying they were voting largely along party lines. "Voters should be assured their vote will be counted".

California was among eight states voting in primaries Tuesday as the nation gears up for the November 6 midterm election.

California could play a determining role in upsetting Republican control the U.S. Congress, as they hope to win 10 of the 14 seats held by Republicans.

Democrats and Republicans from Montana to Alabama and MS to New Jersey will pick their nominees up and down the ballot to face off this November for the inaugural midterm elections of Donald Trump's presidency.

Mid-term Primary elections have, traditionally, seen low voter turnout on the Central Coast. Her opponents - Mayor Tommy Battle of Huntsville, state Senator Bill Hightower and Scott Dawson, an evangelical preacher - have seized on her refusal to participate in debates, accusing her of taking voters' support for granted.

"Just get 'em in", Rousseau said.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES: Republicans now control 14 of California's 53 congressional seats.

Edgar Mito, a 77-year-old retired truck loader in Los Angeles who is a registered Democrat, voted for state Treasurer John Chiang for governor and for U.S. Sen. No other state features more than three. The top two vote-getters advance to November, regardless of party affiliation. That allows the possibility of two candidates from the same party qualifying. Despite making education a foundation of her campaign, she lost the coveted endorsement of the California Teachers Association to Newsom and has struggled to get serious momentum in the race. Doing so would likely derail or stall much of Republican President Donald Trump's policy agenda, while ushering a new era of committee oversight and investigation into the administration.

Republican Bob Hugin, left, will challenge Sen.

Then he or she would hand the ballot back to the official who would insert it into an electronic voting machine. Second place is far less certain.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES: Two congressional races in this state could be competitive.

Democrat Omar Siddiqui is seeking to unseat Rep. Dana Rohrabacher of Costa Mesa, and said officials warned him to "change [his] name" in order to have a better shot at winning.

The other major candidates are Chiang and former education Superintendent Delaine Eastin, both Democrats, and Republican Assemblyman Travis Allen.

One more stop on the road to the midterms.

There is another kind of drama playing out in other states. You can go to the elections office, register and vote conditionally.

That's a ding at Democratic incumbent Bob Menendez, who defeated federal corruption charges after a hung jury previous year.

In Montana, Republicans are picking their nominee to face Democrat Jon Tester in November.
