Trump agreed to end joint U.S.

Donald Trump has become the first U.S. president to meet and shake hands with a North Korean leader. The US had sided with South Korea in the conflict.

The cancellation is seen as a significant concession to North Korea. I really believe that. "It clearly was not part of the declaration and so we have to take the declaration as being the areas of agreement and build on that", Ms Bishop said. "We'll check it very strongly", he told reporters on Air Force One.

However, the Pentagon has since denied that Mr Mattis was caught off guard.

White House Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert speaks about the situation in Texas, during a news briefing at the White House on August 31, 2017.

In a statement sent to the BBC, she said: "Our alliances remain ironclad, and ensure peace and stability in the region".

In a 2014 report, United Nations investigators said that 80,000 to 120,000 people were thought to be held in prison labor camps in North Korea. Generations of North Korean leaders have made and broken promises before - this Administration's success will be judged on whether it can eliminate Kim's nuclear weapons and verify they are gone.

What are the war games?

Ending the drills "is in excess of all expert consensus, South Korean requests, and even a close reading of North Korean demands", said Adam Mount of the Federation of American Scientists.

The newspaper's coverage was largely framed around the premise that it was Trump who was most eager for the summit. "Is this forever, or while the talks or going on, just for next month?"

Mr Trump said he urged Mr Kim and other North Korean officials to watch a four-minute video produced before the Singapore summit.

The two men held a 40-minute meeting, followed by a signing of a joint statement in which they agreed to the de-nuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.

"I think the meeting was every bit as good for the United States as it was for North Korea", Trump said.

Observers say the document lacks substance, in particular on how denuclearisation would be achieved. "You know, he can have a membership at Trump National", Graham said on CBS, referring to Trump's golf course.

The US President is reportedly spending a bit more time with PM Lee today - two hours of talks and a working lunch together with government officials from respective countries, according to Channel NewsAsia. The plan outlined in the two leaders' joint statement turns out to be exactly what Beijing wants.

The 33 photos seen in Wednesday's Rodong Sinmun were far less than the 50 featured in the Rodong the day after the April 27 inter-Korean summit but the April event had been a one-day trip for Kim Jong Un while Kim was in Singapore for three.

On Wednesday the foreign affairs minister, Julie Bishop, said the suspension of war games - a surprise concession offered by the U.S. president on Tuesday night that caught South Korea by surprise - was not in the official declaration but "the president spoke about it in answer to a question at a press conference".
