LeBron to join Lakers for $154 million over 4 years

03 Juillet 2018

He agreed to a one-year, $4.5 million contract with the Lakers, according to ESPN and The Athletic. The Lakers were the fifth-choice in June.

On Sunday evening, the Lakers were 8/1 to secure their first NBA Finals victory since 2010.

The Los Angeles Lakers, as of last night, have reason to be excited about their future. Also, James was not adamant that another All-Star, such as Kawhi Leonard or Paul George, had to join the Lakers for him to sign with the Lakers. In other words, would they and James be okay not contending for a championship this year if it meant adding Leonard next summer and keeping all of their young core?

James, who became a free agent on 1 July, is widely considered the best basketball player in the world. The Lakers were outscored by 1.4 net points per 100 possessions in 2017-18.

The meeting occurred after James' agent reportedly had conversations with the Cavaliers.

Once James committed to the Lakers, Stephenson was a top player on the team's priority list. How can we get better? Just today, Russian Federation knocked off Spain, LeBron James announced his intentions to sign with Los Angeles Lakers and now, LeBron's long-time playoff foil Lance Stephenson is following him to Hollywood.

Derrick Jones Jr. has signed a minimum deal with the Miami Heat, after playing with them on a two-way contract last season.

The 6-foot-7 wing played in 14 games with Miami last season, starting eight.

In 82 games this season, James averaged 27.5 points, 8.6 rebounds and 9.1 assists. He scored 1.2 points per possession in transition for the Cavaliers last season and will nearly certainly bolster a Los Angeles squad that ranked below average (22nd) in transition efficiency in 2017-18.

The Lakers can offer top money plus talent and draft picks in order to surround James with competitive players enough to challenge the Warriors, who suddenly must contend with James as a Pacific division rival rather than a foe to be faced only twice a season and for the National Basketball Association title.

But for now, the Lakers have secured free agency's most coveted player. Ingram was second with 56.7 touches per game, followed by Randle (51.1) and Kuzma (48.1).

There's nothing worse than a bandwagon fan, and like Carr, I've been a Lakers fan since I could walk as an infant, and with LeBron now joining the team, there will be plenty of new Lakers fans strutting their colors.

Only on this occasion James leaves two years after delivering the city's first championship in more than 52 years, and with Cavs fans wishing him well and thanking him for an incredible run.
