Arsenal head coach Unai Emery said the loss to Manchester City on Sunday made it clear that his team still needs more time to work on his tactics, but he insisted there were some positive signs in the 2-0 defeat. "Second half we got better".
Raheem Sterling opened the scoring with a cool finish early in the first half before Bernardo Silva lashed in City's second after the interval, leaving Guardiola to sing the champions' praises. "It helps, if we're together, for the players to show their best performance and to transmit with every supporter the quality, the energy and the spirit to go forward against Manchester City", Emery told reporters. As for Arsenal, there wasn't much creativity and Mesut Ozil was had a horrendous day. And it felt like they seamlessly continued that form as they comfortably defeated an Arsenal side looking slightly disjointed in their first competitive match under Unai Emery.
After 22 long years, Arsene Wenger was asked to step down and a new era dawns at the North London club that sees a frustrated fan base excited about new possibilities but also wary of the time it will take Emery to stamp his authority on the team. The Uruguayan worldwide is a specialist holding midfielder and although he may not be 100% match fit yet, I think we'll see him make his debut tomorrow.
"Today is the first step". Arsenal must watch long balls over the top, however - Aguero has punished them in that manner in the past, particularly in this year's Carabao Cup final. Together I think we can improve, to win in our way.
GK Petr Cech, 5 - It would appear that, for now at least, Cech has held off the challenge off the younger and more expensive Bernd Leno to remain first choice.
I will be using half my stake backing Over 3.5 goals before the game starts at around [2.5] and also placing the other half on Over 2.5 goals with a keep bet should it reach [2.0] in running. Leno is starting with us.
"But I think here we are going to feel very well". He's working very well.
Sead Kolasinac has been ruled out for around two months with a knee injury while Nacho Monreal is lacking match fitness after recently recovering from his own knee problem so Ainsley Maitland-Niles is set to start at left-back.
Somewhat criticised of Wenger in his latter stages of the Arsenal tenure is the lack of tactical preparation he gave to his team ahead of a big fixture against their rivals.
Emery, meanwhile, will know he has much to do, even before a hard derby with Chelsea next weekend.
