Texas man rescues 6 dogs during Hurricane Florence rescue missions

The number of customers without power across North Carolina fell to just under 500,000, with about 20,000 in SC.

Authorities continue to worry about more floods, breached dams and landslides, particularly as Florence makes its way across mountainous regions.

-Storm deaths: Florence is being blamed for at least 32 deaths in three states, and Typhoon Mangkhut has killed at least 74 people in the Philippines and China.

One road into town is providing some access into Wilmington, according to the Kansas City Star. He added: "Don't drive around barricades".

More than 60 percent of homes and businesses were without power, and crews have completed about 700 rescues in the county where Wilmington is located.

The tiny town of Nichols was almost entirely destroyed in the flooding that followed Hurricane Matthew in 2016.

In North Carolina, flooding was so bad that officials Monday advised motorists not to travel "in southern, central and eastern parts of the state".

In Scotts Hill just outside of Wilmington, several people have been cut off, stuck for days without power or any way to get out. Remember, these are households - not total people. Many households have multiple people.

Tornadoes spawned during storm conditions in Virginia, causing the death of one man after the warehouse where he worked collapsed.

The body of an elderly man was found by his submerged vehicle Monday morning, the Union County Sheriff's Office said.

Residents of the Carolinas were starting to confront the storm's after-effects, including power outages, impassable roads, and sewage spilling into flooded areas, while the hurricane's remnants headed north.

- Two people died from carbon monoxide poisoning in Horry County, South Carolina.

After their release, the dogs can be seen in the video swimming away from the cage, trying to keep their heads above water until they reach higher ground.

An additional 5-13cm of rain is expected with isolated areas of 20cm possible through Tuesday in the Carolinas and Virginia.

The number of service members deployed include 7,500 from the US Coast Guard and 6,500 from the National Guard, the Federal Emergency Management Agency said. The department also reported that more than 2,600 swift water rescues have occurred in the state, by boat or helicopter alone. "Our interstates, I-95 and I-40, still have closures", noted Cooper.

But so far, the North Carolina Attorney General's office has received more than 500 complaints. "I think it's fair to say in terms of economic impact, rebuilding, that we are talking in the billions of dollars".

The price gouging law will be in place until Governor Roy Cooper lifts the state of emergency.
