Trump hosts Kavanaugh for ceremonial Supreme Court swearing

And with Kavanaugh's confirmation, the High Court isn't even centrist at this point-let alone liberal or progressive. Trump, who is scheduled to administer another swearing in for Kavanaugh at a ceremonial function at the White House, told reporters that the conduct of the Democrats during the entire nomination process was disgraceful.

"It unleashed something inside me. I do believe she was assaulted".

Kavanaugh officially took the oath in a more hurried, private procedure Saturday, but the White House version late Monday was a chance for the Trump administration to perform the equivalent of a victory lap.

"It's turned our base on fire", Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said Saturday, moments after the Senate confirmed Kavanaugh.

In an appearance on "Fox News Sunday", McConnell did not rule out the idea that another Supreme Court justice during a presidential election year, saying, "We'll see if there's a vacancy in 2020".

On Monday morning, he issued a blanket dismissal of the allegations against Kavanaugh brought by Ford and two other women.

"We go through these periods. They know that the senators who are making these confirmation decisions are the people who are elected by their voters, and so as voters they have a role to play".

Trump has been holding rallies across the country as he tries to boost Republican turnout in November's midterm elections that will determine which party will control the House and Senate during the second half of Trump's term.

Kavanaugh showed himself to be a severe partisan, and Collins, in effect, endorsed that partisanship when she voted to put him on the Supreme Court.

"You don't hand matches to an arsonist, and you don't give power to an angry left-wing mob. The democrats have become too extreme and too unsafe to govern", Trump said. A really bad outcome looks less likely for the Republicans now - one where they lose 50 or more House seats and also come close to losing or lose the Senate.

According to the National Law Journal, Kavanaugh hired 25 women and 23 men while serving as an appeals court judge on the D.C. Circuit.

"It is a sad day, but the recourse will have to be on election day", Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar told reporters.

Another prominent Kavanaugh backer, Sen. Collins claims that Kavanaugh will uphold that protection if the Supreme Court examines the ACA again, but Kavanaugh's rulings have demonstrated that he is no fan of the ACA.

Democrats have said that an FBI investigation into the allegations that Trump ordered was too limited in scope to be useful.

Trump, throughout the day, insisted Kavanagh would not be tainted by the sexual assault allegations from Christine Blasey Ford and others that almost tanked his nomination, declaring he was "100 percent" certain his nominee was innocent.

"The Supreme Court is a team of nine and I will always be a team player on the team of nine", Kavanaugh said.

Hundreds of protesters were arrested on Capitol Hill this week - including several dozen in the hours leading to the final vote. GOP operatives say they're also seeing renewed Republican interest in states such as Wisconsin, where Democratic candidates for both Senate and governor have been polling strong.
