Cowboys, Jaguars look for consistency

15 Octobre 2018

The problem is only one team's star running back has been consistently available throughout the 2018 season.

The Cowboys' home-away splits couldn't be more opposite. The Cowboys, who are allowing only 19.2 points per game, have yet to concede more than 24 in any week. Charles will play this Sunday vs. the Dallas Cowboys (2-3). He's also not running as much - only 24 yards per contest - which is allowing defenses to drop back into coverage on obvious passing downs. Bortles has shot at being fifth in National Football League history with at least 375 yards passing in three straight games.

As for the defense, they haven't scored for this team since Byron Jones housed a pick against Washington in October of past year. It's encouraging to see that the Jaguars rankings are much higher.

"He's a guy we're still trying to figure out things he's good at and what he likes to do", quarterback Blake Bortles said.

"I think we were pretty fortunate past year as far as staying healthy", Bortles said.

The Jags and Cowboys are built the same, elite rushing attacks, strong defenses, and limited quarterback play.

Jacksonville released running back Dimitri Flowers in a corresponding transaction. This will allow them to run effectively and stay with the run longer. But no more hoping for the deep ball, it's a must this week. However, he was sacked five times and threw four interceptions. The over/under total is now listed at 40 points. Fournette hasn't played since the first half of Week 4 against the New York Jets and will have sat out four of the team's first six games after this weekend. These two teams have not faced each other since November of 2014 when the Cowboys won in Jacksonville, 31-17.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are coming off a tough loss to the Kansas City Chiefs during which they allowed Patrick Mahomes and company to move the ball up and down the field easily on their way to 30 points.

When the teams meet in Dallas, they'll both attempt to rebound from losses in Week 5.

That chance, however, seems awfully low given that the Jaguars have a defense that is a step ahead of what the Cowboys trot out week to week.

From Barnwell: "The Cowboys are absolutely bereft of wide receiver weapons for Dak Prescott". There is really nothing offensively that scares you about this Jacksonville team, and Dallas should be able to shut them down in all facets. Although the Dallas and Jacksonville offenses are similar in both struggles and production, I believe the Jags' defense creates more turnovers, and that will be the difference Sunday. But their 172 passing yards per game rank 30th in the NFL, dragging their total yards per game to 307.8, 28th in the league. And they did give up 30 points to Kansas City, and have been hit for an average of 22.5 points in their two road games. The fans should look forward to a return to winning ways.
